How come....

...we aren't hearing about rioting, looting, general mayhem in Southern California?

And why isn't George Bush being blamed for the fires!?!

I think that is the point. There is obviously a difference in the trash that was floating in the 9th and the folks of southern CA.

Once again Paul, your satire speaks volumes.

Well, for one thing, in NO there was no officials of any kind around. Down here right now you can't go 5 feet without seeing a fireman or some other type of official. Then there's the issue of immediate threat to life...a flood, while inconvenient and unsanitary, allows for looting and general movement/life. The middle of a scorching inferno, on the other hand, is unbearable even for a looter.

that's because only white people live in those parts of L.A. and we learned from the A.P. that only black people can be called "looters" while white people are "trying to survive"... duhhh

Red face

Maybe because our National Guard are not MIA in the firefighting ~ They were MIA in New Orleans ~ We (Bush) depleted the forces that were available for national deployment to zip, therefore no help in a national disaster...

Hmmmm? Yeah, I think that's it.

Good point. We also learned from NO that buckets of Heinekin and melted down sneakers and chrome rims actually have medicinal proterties.

It is a good point, Paul... maybe because white people have bank accounts?

Out of curiosity I wonder how many people silently welcomed the fires due to the housing crash?

Probably the same reason you don't hear about looting in Florida when hurricanes hit, or Mississippi, or any of the areas other than New Orleans that where hit by the Hurricane.

1. The people living there don't immediately see the disaster as a means to "get paid"
2. The States involved had their heads on their shoulders (as apposed to other places) and were able to mount a decent disaster response effort, rather than immediately pushing all responsibility on the head of the executive branch.

It's a valid point that a lot of people don't admit.

NO is good for beads and ******* but it's a **** hole, always has been, most people there included.

This is funny, and typical of you Northwest Liberals ( ) to blame Bush.
Why not blame years of forest mismanagement, stupid local gov't/people for building in a forest, etc?

Actually the National Guard, ETC is unable to help until a State of Emergency is declared. Something about Posse Comitatus(perhaps you've heard of it?) You know the law that prevents the US military from acting in a Civil role unless specifically authorized( requested by the State and then Authorized) in the Case of Katrina there was no state of emergency declared until well after the damage had been done and State had royally screwed the pooch. whereas in Florida, Mississippi, and Texas had already prepared their states guard and Reserve and had requested help if it was needed. I know because one of my units would have been on the hook but were unable to do anything until the declaration was made.

After the Dec we can move but it takes awhile because no engineers have come up with instantaneous transportation so really you should be blaming Engineers for the Katrina F#$% Up, for their lack of progress on Worm Hole Technology and/or the infinite improbability drive.

Blaming Bush for something out of his hands is just stupid. Why not just blame him for the Hurricane? It's just not politically correct to say that Mayor Nagin is a incompetent figurehead that was elected (and then re-elected) by an uneducated public in one of the ****tiest towns in America. But rather than look at what went wrong. (20 years of neglect on the Dikes) a poor Disaster Preparedness plan, and horrible local leadership, and ways to fix it. You get
Jesse Race Bate-in Jackson, and Kanye West on the TV ranting about how George Bush doesn't care about Black People. And how republicans have once again kept the Black Man down and how the US military is too busy war mongering to help it's people.
