There's also the practical issue. You want to keep opposing/protesting sides separate to avoid fights and arguments. The police have every right to demand that some people with loud tshirts take them off while in a group of Bush supporters, likewise for Kerry. That's a basic civil courtesy that I don't think anyone can challenge.

If you don't think you're free because you don't have the right to **** off crowds of people assembled for their own purposes of free speech, move to...oh, well, nowhere, because not even Europeans have laws that allow one or two to spoil a whole event for others.

Did any of you read that article? It said that Kerry lets anybody come to his rallies. He doesn't care if they're clapping flip-flops or singing the theme song from Flipper, he lets them in.

Wow you guys are easy to provoke. Anyway, it looks like you're missing the point of this article, which is not that they were kicked out (if you're surprised by that you're living in a dream world). The point is that she was fired because of this, and that's complete bull****.

I believe most of us that that tidbit in the article and all agreed that it was BS. On the other hand, the article wasn't based on that premise, sorry...

If that's so, why did you post it here? It sounds like you need to find an employment law forum to spew your propaganda.

I'd do the same if I were that boss. It's embarrassing to accept tickets from someone as a gift and use them to slam the event the first owner of the tickets essentially recommended you for.

Think of it this way: If you boss arranged for you to meet a friend of his, do you think it's fair game to mouth off to the friend anyway you wish and expect the boss not to be angry about it???

...so do you think the boss knew the couple were democrats or not? If he'she knew, then it's an insult to even give those tickets to them.

1:"You like country music?"
2:"No, actually I am very opposed to it."
1:"Oh, then in that case here's 2 tickets to a country music festival."
2:in his head "...you f***ing moron...if I go at all I'll bring my Metallica t-shirt and my i-Pod..."

That is the same story, actually. Yeah. Exactly. You refuse the tickets if you don't want to go. What you do not do is go and make a fool of yourself where your boss considers his friends to be. I'd fire them too.

haha, now those two are funny. Maybe the reason both you think this is acceptable is...

dano: You're not a lawyer.

MVWRX: You aren't a boss.

I'm not saying anything about your future potential...just offering an explanation as to why you see mine the way you do.

Its not during work hours....sorry they should sue the **** out of the guy. And they would win. If it is true that they got fired.

Let me say this as clearly as possible: There is absolutely no way under the sun they are going to win a suit, of any kind, against their employer for this. Embarrassing the boss by insulting his friends and stirring something up at their event is not only childish (eg, like in MVWRX's nerd with the metallica shirt going to a country concert), it's also potentially damaging to the boss's working relationships. Companies aren't government agencies; they don't need to file fifty thousand papers and reasons to fire you. Not liking you is more than enough to make you gone. You being a moron, like these two obviously were, and not valuing your job enough to play nice, are plenty of reason to get you fired.

Well you're right that I'm not a boss...now. I was for 3 years, and I fired 2 people. It is EXTREAMLY hard to fire people, even when you have a legit, on-the-job-****-up reason for it. And both people I fired tried to file suits. So, in short, you're wrong. The boss can, and probably will, be sued for this. Who will win? Whoever buys the better lawer...

Yeah, it's hard to fire people when you're absolutely the bottom of the food chain manager, and dealing with union employees.

When you were the night boss at costco or wherever, you were dealing with an entirely different set of rules than management deals with. Non-union employees and management can be fired, laid off, etc, absent a specific contract, for virtually any reason at all (barring some exceptions like race). Private companies have absolutely no duty to keep you on when they don't want you.

Now, for your benefit, I've searched up the actual legal complaint in the case filed by Rank's representatives. First of all, this clarifies the facts...no official firing happened. The lady worked for FEMA. FEMA isn't even mentioned in the complaint. Check it out, then tell me where the employer is listed in the suit. (Hint: Look at the blank spaces, because that's the closest you'll get.)

http://www.aclu.org/FreeSpeech/FreeS...?ID=16437&c=86

Then, I'd be interested to see a case or two where an employee who was fired for insulting the boss's friends or associates actually prevailed in some kind of suit, you choose which kind.
