I've always just felt that murder is murder and it should always be worse than the "Hate Crime" tag. When I think of Hate Crime I think of someone beating someone down or say dragging someone behind a truck. But Capital Murder should always hold just as much if now more weight as the "Hate Crime" tag.

 

The question is, why WOULD it be a hate crime? Did witnesses see/hear the shooter do/say anything overtly racist? Does the shooter espouse racist rhetoric? If not, then it's not a hate crime.


Of course it doesn't really matter, because he shot a COP in cold blood. The state will surely kill him.

I think they should let officer Scott's' family and friends take custody of him.

It's not really a hate crime in that respect because cops are not a minority group or even an ethnic or social group. Would it be a hate crime if he killed a black cop? Or an asian cop? Or a gay cop?

But it's really irrelevant, because killing a police officer is a worse crime (under the law) than a hate motivated killing not involving a cop...the 'hate crime' status is trumped by the fact that the guy killed a cop. The fact that he has assaulted cops before makes him dangerous and a high risk. And he's gotta be pretty crazy/dumb/evil to shoot a cop...so like I said, he'll get the needle.

 

...good question....I could see there being a racial accusation if they were. But again, he killed a cop, so he will die...calling him racist or whatever is truely irrelevant.

In this instance I believe that this scumbag would have killed any cop that rolled up to him during whatever it was he was doing at the time. He had a history of violence against cops, not white cops, not hispanic cops but cops. The needle is too good for this joker.

That's true...but those are all born-in traits pretty much. You have a choice weather or not to be a cop. They knew there'd be a lot of people who don't like them based on the fact that they're cops when they signed up.

 

What if it's the only thing you know how to do?

 

Then you're not even qualified to be a cop hahaha. If you can't manage any other job than being a law officer, you should NOT be given a gun and authority over anyone hahahaha.
