The great stem-cell-research scam

THE GREAT STEM-CELL-RESEARCH SCAM

Hope & Change?
This Administration is becoming more corrupt every day....

MEDICAL-RESEARCH insiders know that embryonic-stem-cell technol ogy is proving a dead end -- Dr. Bernadine Healy, a former director of the National Institutes of Health and once an ES-cell-research enthusiast, calls it "obsolete." But the Obama administration has opened wide the federal funding floodgates -- the triumph of a big special-interest PR and lobbying campaign.

In fact, the research will line the pockets of a relatively few individuals -- at considerable cost for the rest of us, since the funding means billions that won't go to more promising areas.
CN:

Embryonic stem cells suck.
Adult stem cells rule!!

Had Bush not banned federal funding for ESC research, we would have known this nearly 8 years ago, thank you for delaying my cure because of your morals

The "problems" with the ESC's seems to stem from lack of research. Hmm, why is there lack of research? Oh yeah........

University of Wisconsin scientist James Thomson, the creator of the first human ES-cell line, says treatments and cures could be decades away.
No one said, and I don't think anyone thinks cures were right around the corner.

As someone whose life is impacted by diabetes, I look forward to both ES and AS cell research. All research leads to results and those results inspire more research, how is that bad?

Should've read a little further

Conversely, adult stem cells (AS cells, meaning any naturally found stem cell not from embryos), are far more controllable (that is, easier to direct to become the desired cell type) and have thus been saving lives for decades, via (for example) bone-marrow transplants. More recently, AS cells have treated illnesses including cancers, autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, immunodeficiency disorders and neural degenerative diseases.
Something is working, now, so why divert money to an unproven method?

Speaking from the inside, you would all be shocked at the amount of monetary waste of federal funds in medical research.

Listen, if we can use stem cell research to give me a larger erection, I'm all for it.

doubtful. an acquaintance of mine from the bay area is in a special forces unit for a certain military branch. They needed to do some cold weather training, about 2 days worth.

they "compressed" it into 8 days.... in Jackson Hole.

I'm reminded of a variation the old joke: What does an 800 pound gorilla have sex with?

Whatever it wants.
