Google Streetview
Is this a new feature? How does it work? It’s on Drudge right now.
Although I'm sure this tool would make a lot of things more practical, I find it funny that because Google does this it's fine. Even non real-time surveillance can be used negatively or be considered an invasion of privacy. Imagine if a Republican was behind this. But because it's run by the liberal socialist hippies at Google everyone is like “OMG THIS SO COOL!11!!”
Look, I think it's a pretty neat technological feature to be honest and I stand on the fence as an observer just like I did with the Racist Washington Mutual Advertisements. I just think there's something to be said about the all the would-be "big brother" talk if Cheney had a stake in Google (Ahem... Gore) rather than Halliburton.

I've messed with it a tiny bit; I don't think it's something that is violating any rights or approaching it, but it's something that potentially could be/have been. As long as google is careful about what is or isn't in the photos (I saw no people, and could not make out license plates, nor could time or day or date of the photo be proven) there is no real danger or "big brother" here. Since nothing you can see from the street is private anyway, I don't see how it's an issue at this point.

It still makes me feel uneasy. One guy's father from the Bay Area IC was "captured" on 80. I found it cool to see the progress of the new bay bridge, but I don't understand why you need to do streets of residential neighborhoods. It's a cool idea, but I think it will make some people uneasy.

Not saying the Government doesn’t have satellite technology like this... I’m just saying there would certainly be an uproar if they wore it on their sleeves in plain sight.

Right. I just think there would be a much different tone if Google was run by the other side. I just think that most people will assume a liberal-run organization is only capable of progression and candy coated technological advancements. If Google was run by cowboys, God fearing Christians, and had Republicans deep in their pockets, then everyone would be immediately suspect about intentions and capabilities with such technology.

These aren't taken from a satelite... These are taken from google cars that drive around and takes 300 pictures a (second or minute I forget)... This is not even CLOSE to invasion of privacy.... This is no different then me driving around with my digital camera and taking pictures of everything i pass and putting them on the internet...
In public there is ZERO privacy laws... if you are walking out in public you are 1000249032943249023490238589023432% free to have your picture taken and there is nothing anyone can say/do about it.

The partisanship of the Administration doesn't matter because they would all have access to that sort of technology in closed doors, assuming such technology does exist. It's not like Clinton didn't have access to the technology because he was a Democrat, Bush does because he’s an “evil Republican”, and Obama/Hillary won't for the same reasons Bill didn't have it - assuming they're elected.
That's not my point. My point is most of the country wouldn’t be singing to the same tune if this were the case: "conservative" organizations take data like this and say "hey general public, check this cool thing out! It's awesome, you can use it for free!" There's just no way. People would be inclined to question their motives first. People would instead use "public access" and “surveillance” in a sentence to describe the technology instead of “public access” and “awesome”

my point is it's not "technology" like this... It's basically a guy driving around taking pictures... then puting them in a database... this isn't some super secret spy satelite lol

This issue is NOT whether or not it's legal or not. It's how the general public would react depending on who was behind the program. I'll be damned if GT35 STI is going to attempt to school me on what is and is not legal (and i'm not even a lawyer).

if it was from a satelite camera... YES i could see it being scewed as big brother... but i'm not sure how the liberal media can scew basically a man driving around with a camera, into big brother OH EM GEE the government is taking over scenario
