that is crazy. I had a client that went to cuba to play jazz for 4 months. He came back with a taste for mojito's and a boatload of pictures of beautiful classic cars.

Nothing big is going to change anytime soon. There needs to be a total dissolvement of the military autocratic govt and installation of a full democratic system in order for the U.S govt to open up trade again.
Too bad this didnt happen a few years earlier.....Dubya would have had a much easier time of invading/occupying Ccuba than whats gone on in Iraq. Iif we took over Cuba, we could call it "New Miami".

Wow, so what happens with our embargos and stuff? I'm assuming their next leader won't be as insane so maybe we'll be a little more relaxed?

Fidel's brother has been "in charge" for the time being, he's 76...he is not going to do much but carry the Castro torch. There's a slight chance that the anti-Castro forces may try for a coup de tat, but I'm sure the Cuban military has already taken the proverbial "safety off the gun".

Oh yeah? so why have we supported so many other military autocracies over the years? I think it had more to do with the "communist" aspect of Fidel's rule, a full democratic system that doesn't elect "our favorite leaders" doesn't win any support form the USA (witness Venezuela)

For true- would have been a lot easier and a whole lot cheaper to boot, but Cuba doesn't have any oil, so why bother?

"we" will only be more relaxed when Cuba "leadership" agrees that american corporations can run their country and backs down to more of a figurehead role.

Moderators- please move this thread to the political forum where it belongs

the embargo will not end anytime soon. its b.s. and a unilateral decision by the u.s. someone needs to alert the u.s. govt. that the cold war ended about 20 years ago.
