I just was linked to this from the thread in the BAIC about Prop 8. I was surprised when I read what EJ had to say. Even more surprised that I agree with him

NEW YORK — Sir Elton John, accompanied by his longtime partner David Furnish, had some choice words about California's Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage that passed on Nov. 4.
In December 2005, John and Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage."
John and Furnish, and their two cocker spaniels Marilyn and Arthur, were in town for Monday's annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.
"I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership," said John. "The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships."
The dinner, held at Cipriani Wall Street, was hosted by CNN's Anderson Cooper and featured a performance from Gladys Knight. John's foundation gets a four-star rating, the highest available, from CharityNavigator.com and John, in his speech, called for the enactment of a national AIDS policy.

That's his opinion. I think there's a deeper issue in the fact that the right for gay marriage was a right. The removal of those rights is viewed by many as unconstitutional, public majority vote or not.

I'm sure they're standing up for what they believe is a basic right. When some people get scared of loosing their rights, they stock up on guns and ammo. These people yell and hold up hand made signs. To each their own.

Didn't hear about any riots, but don't ask me. What do I know.

I may stock up on armaments, but you don't see me beating up Catholics and Mormons.
Funny how the No on 8 folks aren't picking on Blacks & Hispanics, who overwhelmingly voted Yes on 8.

I don't think it's funny at all. Especially given the history of resentment toward African and Hispanic Americans over the years. You would think that blacks and Latinos would recognize and be somewhat empathetic the same sort of resentment of gays. Guess not. But I'm sure Christianity and Catholicism in those respective cultures has a lot to do with it as well.

I guess you could argue the 14th amendment. Below..
No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
Of course California had no problem crapping on the 2nd amendment (and I certainly don't enjoy the same right to protection of myself and family that I enjoy in TX, or even a the same rights as a guy in less leftist areas of California.) and no one is rioting over that...

I just saw a video of a women leaving a church get a cross hit out of her hands and onto the street. It's really amazing that there is harassment and straight hate coming from the No on 8 supporters. They're not doing anything but hurting themselves and probably getting a lot of prayer on their behalf
