Rare Chlamydia Strain Infecting Gay Men
By LAURAN NEERGAARD, AP Medical Writer

(02-06) 14:06 PST WASHINGTON, (AP) --
A particularly bad strain of chlamydia not usually seen in this country appears to be slowly spreading among gay and bisexual men, an infection that can increase their chances of getting or spreading the AIDS virus.
Called LGV chlamydia, this sexually transmitted disease has caused a worrisome outbreak in Europe, where some countries have confirmed dozens of cases. Diagnoses confirmed by U.S. health officials still are low, just 27 since they warned a year ago that the strain was headed here.
But specialists say that's undoubtedly a fraction of the infections, because this illness is incredibly hard to diagnose: Few U.S. clinics and laboratories can test for it. Painful symptoms can be mistaken for other illnesses, such as irritable bowel syndrome.
And because LGV chlamydia doesn't always cause noticeable symptoms — right away, at least — an unknown number of people may silently harbor and spread it, along with an increased risk of HIV transmission.
snip... careful guys!

We all know that disease outbreaks tend to target humans that have unsanitary living conditions (i.e. the great plague, folks that (deliberately or not) eat fecal matter, etc). I'm not going to go into the detailed mechanics of it, but "homos" (as you put it) are generally at high risk for disease, and it is reasonably conceivable that some activities actually CAUSE disease. Heck, neurological disease results when cows eat cow products...... we are only at the tip of the iceburg of learning the direct and indirect consequences of our actions.
But back to your point, isn't it "funny" how you can avoid disease if you eat kosher food and try to avoid sinful acts?

You can ask any 16yr old facts regarding AIDS and they'll give you a very vague, PC response. They don't remember having to be extremely wary in the presence of those which HIV/AIDS. I remember when my Mother's now-deceased friend form SF (hint) came over with the news and we threw away his drinking cup immediately after he left. They probably overlook the fact that over 45% of HIV cases were transmitted by male on male sex.
This really isn't meant to bash gays. It's everyones problem now and we have to live with it like everything else. Paul's right... it's got everything to do with making poor choices in life now. But doesn't it make you wonder? Homosexuals insist and some studies suggest that homosexuality is a biological trait. Who am I to say otherwise? I'm not a biologist. And there may or may not be a God that frowns on homosexuality. Again, who really knows? But I can tell you one thing for certain... biology certainly seems to disagree with it. :-/

Homosexuals in this country do seem to have a higher per capita rate of some STDs than heterosexuals.

I never grew up in the Bay Area (thank god)
I don't think this is the issue.

Of course it's possible for a virus to return stronger...but saying that noone wants to cure a virus is assinine.
The trick is to attack what makes a virus a virus, as opposed to attacking a specific one. But that's excedingly difficult.
And even if that's not possible, everyone still wants to cure the viruses we have around now.
But hey, maybe you're right, we should just stop trying to cure all infectious diseases. After all, if we let everyone that gets sick die then less people will be sick!
...and while there is a chance that a virus will come back stronger, there is also the possiblity that it won't...like small pox. It's virtually eradicated thanks entirely to people who wanted to cure a virus.

I'm not saying we should stop trying to cure disease but why bother with a disease that is kept 99.999% alive by irresponsible behavior and run that risk? You don't normally get smallpox from sodomizing somebody, or sharing an IV needle. Keep trying but aren't there more important things to spend that money on, if nothing else education.

Do the math on that one, it's increasing in men and decreasing in women
