Christmas and PC bullcrap

Thoughts on Christmas and the vile of political correctness...

(I will preface this mini rant by saying that I think it is retarded that the hardcore rightwing Christian fanatics are "boycotting" Bushie's Christmas card because it doesn't say Merry Christmas.)

It pisses me off that we have become so PC that businesses, govt, etc. no longer say Merry Christmas during Christmas time. December 25th is Christmas. The day is not a "Holiday" if you dont believe in Christmas! What the hell does Happy Holidays even mean?!? And what the hell is a "holiday tree"????

For those who don't believe in the symblic meaning of Christmas, does it really bother you so much to have the word Christmas on ads, etc..?

Siding with the Christian right is hard for me to do, and I think that they're approach misses the mark. Still, this whole "happy holidays" reeks of political correctness.

Anyways, Merry Christmas!

Dude, don't say that out loud. You might get hauled in or fired from your place of work.

BTW, they demoted the presidents day holiday and promoted Martin Luther King day at my work. MLK may have deserved it, but did our presidents need to get kicked in the teeth?

It's ok to say happy quanza(sp?)!!!!!

Who are these idiots that are offended by a greeting anyways? People need to get a life or end thier own if this truly does bother them.

Imho this is directly related to the hatred of christianity and anything christian.

How many of these idiots who are offended by christmas buy presants? Most of them, you can't have it both ways. If you don't like it don't participate.

I don't consider myself a christian but I have no problem with any religon as long as they respect my opinions.

Agree 110%

The thing that gets me the most is that people that practice other religions in the USA are very tolerant of other religions for the most part. It's what makes their particular religion acceptable among many others and part of why this country is great.

So it's always a small, determined, and ridiculously selfish group of atheists much like Michael Newdow that make it their life abomination to destroy it for the rest of us. You think those that celebrate Kwanzaa give a damn about the rest of us calling a Douglas-fir a "Christmas Tree?" There's no way! If we continue to call it a "Holiday Tree" then what's keeping us from erecting one on Halloween or Easter Sunday? Is anything sacred anymore?

All I know is that I will ALWAYS say "Merry Christmas" and refer to my Douglas Fir as a "Christmas Tree."

The reason I don't give a flying f*** about people saying Merry Christmas is because it's not even a religious holiday anymore. It's the most overtly American/capitalist holiday out there, with only tenuous ties to the Christian religion. The bible doesn't say anything about a tree, a fat guy in red, presents, stockings, or coal. Hell, they even got the supposed birthday wrong by a few months, according to the book. So Merry Christmas everyone, go spend your cash and make our economy boom a little.

It's like in Futurama...it really should be called X-mas at this point hahaha.

What do you mean "At this point". I've been doing it this way since I was born (I'm 33 now). My parents and grand parents have been doing it the same way as well. Buy a tree, decorate it, buy gifts, wrap them, wake up on Christmas day, say Merry Christmas, open gifts, eat, drink, and be merry! So our economy has grown and we spend more money and there are more comercials advertising sales. Marketing will always be ever expanding. The idea of Chrismas will always be the same. It's never changed for me. It's always been a time for family to come together and bond. Some of my family are a little more into celebrating Jesus than others. It all adds to the experience.

On a side note (and this is besides the point), you can't be mad for our economy booming or "American/capitalist". It works. I'm living the American dream. I Went from living in a crappy apt. in Kentuckey to owning my own 5 bedroom house in the northern bay area of Ca. A little hard work and you can get anything you want in America (something I didn't learn in my one year at a J.C...lol).

Merry Christmas!

I didn't mean anything in my post to be sarcastic or negative. I really am happy that Christmas is a secular holiday now. And by 'at this point' I mean in the past hundred years or so.

I'm glad you bring up family also, because that really is what christmas has been about for me too. But my family has nothing to do with the religion; it's just a good opportunity to spend time with the family and friends, and splurge a little on the people you care about.

If you are into the religious part of it, that's cool too. All I was saying is that most people don't really celebrate Christmas for Jesus, they do it for their family and because in our society gifts and time off are the 'holy grail' pretty much.

I think that they name "holiday tree" is straight up gey. I live in Mass and I was pretty pissed when they decided to call the tree in Boston a "holiday tree". It is a Christmas Tree. Should we call a menorah a "holiday candle holder" or a dreidel a "holiday top"?

As far as companies saying "happy holidays", I don't see why that is so bad. There are a few different holidays going on at the same time and I don't see why they can't recognize all of them with a blanket statement. I think that those right-wing nutjobs are nuts suing these companies, and the courts shouldn't allow it because it is such a frivolous and pointless lawsuit.

Nice comic. :rotfl:

I must say. I'm agnostic and I truly believe that things like; "god" being written on our money, leaving the "under god" in our pledge of alegance (especially since it wasn't there to begin with) are things that we need to change.

But not writing "christmas" on a card???? If a person is religious and wants to send out a "christmas" card then that is thier right. They aren't forcing it upon anyone.

I don't understand how our president can at times beat america over the head with his ideology then turn around and censor himself is one of the most confusing things he has done.

Got me on that one as well. We'll have to run this by Rove for the real answer (pandering the Jewish vote???)

Yea, I agree.
My family isn't really all that religious. Some of the extended family is and they try to incorporate it as much as they can. I've got nothing against it, and I feel it just adds to in a good way.
