Ask not what your country can do for you...
You know the rest.
It amazes me that in this day and age people are still demanding that the country do/provide stuff to them, but aren't willing to do anything for the country.
So, what have you done for your country?
Nothing(to me) is too small, say protesting against/for any war/cause, registering to vote, buying American Made wher practicle.
Being raised a Socialist Democrat, I started young, when I was in San Francisco during the Dan White Harvey Milk Riots. Anyone who think gays aren't tough needs to see some of the footage shot those nights.
My next highlight happened when I was 11 or 12, with counter-protesting a KKK & **** rally in Railroad Square in Santa Rosa. Got some rocks thrown at me, but threw more back, scoring several direct hits.
From there, I went into the Army, completely by accident, and hated/loved every momment I was in.
When the current Iraq War began, every Saturday I went to counter-protest the Socialist Anti American/Jewish folks that held a vigil in Auburn.
Finally, they stopped showing up.
Again, what, if anything, have done for for our country?

I was there when the Berlin wall came down and passed out food. I protested the war in Iraq. Helped people register to vote. Stuffed envelopes for whatever campagin my sister was working for at the time. Donate my time at my mothers clinic. Worked in several campagin's for free. Worked at the Austin captial for a representative for a session. Tutored children, not in English of course , math while I was in college. Also while growing up when new hispanic students came to whatever school I was going to at the time I would help them out by translating for them. Thats about all I can think of right now.
Never threw any rocks.

Of course, I hold the perspective of more than half our country, that much on the liberal agenda is bad for the U.S.
What have I done to give to our nation? Not much, sadly. I went to two recruiters with intent of joining but couldn't stomach the low pay. This was before tthe dot com bubble burst, and I wanted a part of the pie.
Now I'm too old to join. I'll find a way to contribute at some point.

Hmmm...
Lets see, what have I done for my country....
Voted Republican every time.
Served in the Army for no other reason but to serve my country. This means I didn't join for money, college or otherwise, I didn't join because I had nowhere else to go, I didn't because I wanted to do all the cool stuff you see in the movies (Lol), and I didn't because all my friends were doing it (They wern't). I did it to give a little back. Knowing damn well that I could go off to war or get sent somewhere to do something that would put my life in danger. I'd do it all again too.
Now I work for the Department of Energy.
I donate every year to various organizations (homeless/animal shelters....etc.)
I don't break the law (except when I speed) and I'm a productive member of society.
I think I'm doing my part.

I'm all for making welfare recipients clean toilets, pick lettuce, AND pay taxes. That would be good for our country.
As far as I'm concerned, lifting up a foreign born worker is the equivalent to stabbing a U.S. born worker in the back. I am NOT referring to legal immigration, btw, at least for the most part.

What did you do in the Army if you don't mind me asking? MOS wise?

Other than spending 2-3 hours a day working to earn my "donation"...
I worked as an engineer on two of our most important strategic platforms. In one case we were implementing fixes that had a direct immediate impact on sortie rates against that Serbian butcher. The other stuff is so secret I'd have to kill you if I told you.
And I took a big salary cut to go into teaching in public schools.
