Army meets recruiting goals by accepting a dumber "army of one"
The Army exceeded its 5,600 recruit goal by 256 for November, while the Army Reserve brought in 1,454 recruits, exceeding its target by 112. To do so, they accepted a “double digit” percentage of recruits who scored between 16 and 30 out of a possible 99 on the military’s aptitude test, said officials who requested anonymity.
Last month, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Army reached its recruiting goals in October by accepting 12 percent from these low scorers, known as Category IV recruits. The Army may accept no more than 4 percent annually, according to Defense Department rules. While officials last month disclosed the percentage accepted in October, Thursday they refused to reveal the November figure.

A friend wanted to join the Army and become a truck driver.
Problem was that there was stronger supply than demand.
As a result, he didn't score high enough to become an 88M...truck driver.
However, his recruiter told him, you did score high enough to be a nuke rocket crew memeber.
My friend asked that if he's "too stupid" to drive a truck, why would he be allowed near a nuke rocket.
Because,replied the recruiter.
Now here's the punchline: He was the driver of the truck that the nuke rocket was on,and after 188 days active duty, he was retired due toprovisions of SALT II.

Very likely not.

You'd be surprised. In basic there was a kid that had the IQ of tree branch but the DIs couldn't find a way to tire him out. He was quite literally a machine. Some squad leader has got the best SAW gunner in the Army no doubt.
As far as them lowering the standards......I knew it'd happen and as much as it does draw concern I'm confident that the requirements for special volunteer units will not lessen so it won't be as noticable when the **** gets thick if you know what I mean.
