Syria is largely secular. It has a very extremist faction that is increasingly influential and which is guiding or at least helping to shape policy.

Poor Lebanon is being bombed to tatters 
. A county that was definately on the rebound, and a "beacon of hope" in the middle east is back to square one. And because of some dumbass terrorists? . Really is a shame. I saw beiruit back about a year/half ago and it was really starting to look like the beautiful city it once was again. However, after seeing the few pictures a friend of mine there has sent me, it makes me furious at both sides for destroying the lives/livelyhoods of those in both countries. Just a terrible pity.
