I think for most people coilovers are overkill. Most do not need the adjustability, heigth or damping. Most actually make their cars handle worse by putting on a set of coilovers, dropping it too low, ruining their roll center thus resulting in more roll, then throw on even stiffer springs to reduce roll and end up skipping and hopping all over the street. Then complain about lots of noise because their full pillowball adustable camber plates are basically straight metal on metal contact. You need to take a good honest look at what kind of driving you do, how much you value ride quality and if you are going to be seeing the track at all.

For most, a good strut/spring combo is the best thing. its simply set and forget. For example takeoff STi V8 struts with STi JDM Pink springs are a pretty decent combo. If you want a bit of damping adjustability, the Koni insert and Prodrive spring is a great combo.

Just beware that most people use coilovers as a way to get their cars very low. And it is very possible to go to low in an Impreza and your performance will deteriorate significantly.
