WRX brakes are driving me nuts
WRX brakes are driving me nuts
grrrr...sometimes i dread driving my car (gasp) cause of the freaking vibration in the brakes...it happens when pressing the pedal with at least medium force and some high speed say <50 mph. When it shakes o baby the whole car shakes (pedal, steering wheel, rest of car)
Today I sat in the passenger side while my dad drove...and I got to experience the shakes first hand...it was so bad I could feel it while sitting in the passengers seat. *_*
when i got my car it had 300 miles on it (im betting those were 300 hard, test drive miles =/ ) so maybe the brakes weren't broken in properly?? I took it to NTB where my cousin works and he says its a problem with all subarus...
So I've read around and I've come up with a solution of getting new (slotted -_-) rotors and pads (I need suggestions...leaning towards bobcats from subydude
) SS lines and fluid will come later ( im broke just bought some headers for the gsr)
I got the shakes Doc ...HELP ME!

You definitely need new rotors, or at least resurface the rotors. And while you are doing it, you might as well upgrade other brake parts (though they won't really affect the shake).
I wouldn't really call it a problem with Subaru's, though. It'll happen to every car.

Sounds like something that the dealer could fix for you if you still have warranty.
I had a Focus with that problem and the dealer resurfaced the rotors and put on new pads under warranty.

hmm what if i just resurface the rotors and get new pads...problem solved forever? (as long as i bed it in properly, and dont stop from 100mph then hold the brakes, or do anything else crazy)..or will it return...
I've heard that resurfacing will weaken the rotors..however i got two cousins that work at two ntbs and one can resurface mine for really cheapo
Or brand spankin new rotors ...
(trying to find out if resurfacing will be a temporary fix or a permanent one)

Not a Subaru problem, but a proper break-in and use issue. I have 55k miles, little to no vibration when braking, and I don't drive and/or stop like a grandma.

Resurfacing is no guarantee that the problem will never come back, and it is true that once the problem has ocurred it is more likely to return. The rotors may not actually be warped but could have uneven pad deposits on them which can cause the same symptoms.
The rotors need to be measured before and after resurfacing to be sure they are above the minimum thickness. If they aren't they must be discarded and replaced.
As mentioned if you are under warranty this may be a covered repair so check with your dealer first before spending money someplace else.

It's extremely rare to actually warp your rotors. The far more common problem is that of material transfer from the pad to the rotor (often caused by overheating coupled with holding the brakes when stopped). Definitely make an attempt to get it covered, especially since you think it happened in the 300 miles before you owned the car. There's no sense spending money you don't need to, even if you can afford it.

hey i had the same problem with mine after 30,000 miles, so i bought the stoptech stage 2 upgrade for 600 and no more problems. If you dont have the money for that than just get stoptech rotors. Bed them in the right way so you have a nice cover on your rotors and you shouldn't have any problems with shaking again.

just some personal info..
i had the same problem. i do some hard driving through downhill backroads and mountains, and auto-x~ i dont really brake too hard on daily. i have about 22,000 miles and i resurfaced my rotors about 1-2k miles ago(with new pads, dot4 fluid, and ss lines in the rears. all 4 of my rotors were warped and 1 in the rear was pretty badly warped. guess this is from way too much overheating. ive just did a hard downhill mountain run and 1 auto-x this week. my rotors are now feeling warped again if breaking a bit harder. i would like some new rotors and brake kit now
resurface your rotors once to use up your rotors, then next time you have this problem, i would get new rotors, gl
