Toda Racing coilovers?
Toda Racing coilovers?
I'm looking into purchasing some of these for my '04 STI (EX variant) and would appreciate any real world feedback.

Primary use is street/track.
Thanks, Rob.

I haven't heard any real-world feedback on the TODA racing coilovers. the specs look nice. The 8k/f 5k/r seem a little odd, but they might be valved differently. For that price however, you might want to look at some OHLINS or the like. Those are very proven.
I take it you are looking for dual-height adjustable coilovers right?

You are going to find the coilover selection for the Impreza that have independant rebound & dampening is very limited. Very hard to find unless you spend the big bucks. However, dual-height adjustment is easier to find: JIC, Higher-end TEIN, Cusco Zero2r, couple others.
You might want to check out DMS.

Gary Sheehan has used these on his Touring car WRX with good results.
OHLINS for impreza:

I use JIC FLTA2's on my 04 wrx. The street ride kinda sux but they are great on the track for the price ($1699 retail). They needed alot of little tweaking to be good though, Out-of-the-box they are less than steller.
Also keep in mind the 05 STi has different suspension than the 04 STi. (thicker hub carriers, couple other little things) so 04 designed struts will not fit, and vice versa.
Btw, welcome over to the impreza side, I've seen you over at corner-carvers.

Thanks, I'm a bang for the buck type of person and the STI was impossible to pass up.
Endless USA have a selection of independant rebound & dampening for about the same price. http://www.endlessusa.com/products/index.php?id=3

I would REALLY look more into the DMS and OHLINS.
Are you hell-bent on independant rebound & dampening control? I take it you know what you are doing with that level of control.
in the 2k price range, JIC's can be the ultimate set-up for the price but they do have to be tweaked a bit from what you get out-of-the-box. (custom spring rates, etc). The JIC's have features that are normally on much more pricey coilover systems.
A good person to talk to that is an expert on setting up JIC systems for real racing, street and open track days is John Mueller at Road Race Engineering in Southern California. He really knows his stuff. One warning, he does have quiet a "personality" that some might be turned-off by but he IS knowledgable if you can get past that, some can't. It might be worth a call to John to just find out more about them. (562) 777-1522
Some JIC info from them:

Rob,
You might want to look into the KW Suspensions Variant 3. Send an email to FT at http://www.selgp.com. He was looking into carrying them.

What does dual-height adjustable mean - I'm not familiar with that term? I was under the impression that they were height adjustable within a certain range and that that was independent of the rebound/dampening. Did I misinterpret the information or are you talking about something different?
For myself, I am not looking to lower the car any crazy amount, but I do want the system to be able to be corner weighted. The Ohlins and KW so far are the only systems I've found that offer a lot of functionality at a somewhat reasonable price.
Any other suggestions?

You can cornerweight any coilover system, dual-height adjustable or single-height adjustable. Any system that you can independtly change the height of each corner of the car, you can corner-weight.
Egan, didn't you used to have JIC's? Those are dual-height adjustable. Notice the red ring at the bottom of the spring and the additional red ring at the shock bracket area:

Thanks for the clarification. Yep, I used to have JIC FLT-A2's on the wagon. The setup would not have worked well on the STi without changing the guts and springs. Besides that I was not too happy with JIC or their customer service.
I never realized they were dual height adjustable. I knew the height adjustment was independent from preload due to the separate collar. But I guess we are saying the same thing.

The Toda (EX Version) are dual height adjustable as well as independant rebound dampening also -- price wise; endless, KW, and Toda are all about the same around $4k-$4.5. (about what I don't mind spending)
And yes, dual height adjustable is very important as it ensures the spring don't pop out of the perches under heavy unloading -- the noise when they pop back in place certainly ain't inspiring on track -- if ya know what I mean. Keeping pre-load on the spring in all conditions is very important to me.
Rob.

Rob, how did your Griggs setup on your mustang compare to the coilover solutions you are looking at for your STi?

From what I have heard over the past 2 years, DMS's are notorious for their seapage, leakage, brakage, rustage, etc.
That is why DMSs asre not on the tip of everyones tounges as they were used to back in 2000-2002.
