Tien Basics coilovers for 05 wrx

I was just wondering, if anyone ever put basics on there WRX's and how is the ride. I have a 05 wrx and i dont really drive hard or launch my car, i just want a lower drop on my car, I am currently sitting on eibach pro kits, i just want a better drop and ride. Just curious if the ride is stiff and good? need some feedbacks. thanks

Question Tein Basic fans!

Well, it looks like there are some of us in this boat.

I too am waiting to hear a reasonably good review on tein basics. The thing that makes me wanna get them over Helix or Megans is quality. I mean, u can't go wrong with Teins, right?

Besides, the thing that I most care about (height adjustability) seems to be a bit of a pain with the Helixs.

Let's keep trying to surface someone who has these puppies, I wanna know for sure since 800-1000$ isn't one of the cheapest mods you do to your car.

Rafael.

I'm rocking DMS on my subaru 40mm. Eibach on the honda. Bilstien on the Focus

I feel the DMS is the most versitile and stiffest suspension out of the three. Very reliable. I've been racing on mine for about 4 years now and havn't had the need to recondition them. Well worth the money but super super stiff. Keep in mind that they are adjustible.

The Eibach I do not like. I thought they were way too soft and did phantom stuff to my driving.. like pulling. It also set the rear of the car up very strange. I ended up totaling that car because of it at the COG rally this year. 6 rolls. But I'm sure it was more the car.

Bisltiens rock hard core. I'm currently running the pro street serries on my rally car. They seem to respond very well and support the car nicely. If you would like to see a sample of the Bisltiens at work, check out

www.nocoastmotorsports.net Go to videos and open CHCA highlight video. User "RALLY" Password "FAST"

Brian Moody in the orange S4 is running Bilstiens, Brand Ford in the VR-4 is running DMS 50mm. So is Mark Molsom in the Red 2.2. Check out how much more stable the S4 is.

I also have all that stuff available.

from the few reviews ive read, the basic dampers are pretty "basic" just like its called and does not ride good when you lower it more than whats preset. i plan to drop it lower so that is not an option. overall, ive heard good things about it... its all preference. what may be stiff to others, may be just right or too bouncy to another. its all a matter of taste. you might as well get another set of coilovers for around the same price... being helix dnas or megan racing to name a few. if you want to go with the "tein" brand... just get the basics since its pretty economically priced and simple for those who just want to lower their car and have some performance to go with it.

I had the basics on my 02 WRX for over a year and loved them. Perfect combination of a street coilover that doesn't ride too stiff for daily driving, while still offering you a wide range of ride height adjustment. Also cant beat the price Great entry level coilover

it's also about the same price as the helix dnas which are supposed to be a good set with more adjustability.

I'm still new to the subaru community and still learning what works with the chassis; but I did some research before modifying my 05 rs wagon.

I went with the tein basics because of price, adjustability, reputable company, and a matched sprink, shock combo. I performed the swap in my garage with basic hand and air tools. It took a couple hours with no surprises.

I currently have the height set to "factory specs" from tein. 1 inch from bottom of spring perch to the bottom of the threaded shock body front and rear. It dropped the car 2.5 inches in front and a little over an inch in the back.

The driving experience with the new suspension is day and night over stock. very little brake dive or lift when accelerating, cornering of course, and the height is good at specs in my opinion.

It is bouncier than stock but the springs are stiffer you have to decide what you prefer. It's not overly stiff, I use my wagon for daily driving. I think it is a good compromise between stock and something track capable. You just have to decide if the trade off between soft stock and better handling and looks is what you want. My wife is pregnant and she thought is was to stiff immediatley after the install. But after two months she concedes that it is not as bad as first thought. She prefers the stock because it has no bounce, but can live with this setup.

Here is a link for the pic of the drop with factory specs from tein:

I also swapped the rsb, steering rack bushings, brake lines, front camber bolts, and adjusted the tire pressure and alignment as well. All inexpensive parts and the handling is nothing like stock now. It actually handles the curves.

Hope this helped, Donnie.

finally a review of them on an 04+ wagon!! I've had the hardest time finding anybody w/ clean everyday real life review of these CO on the wagon. Drop looks good and they perform well. Exactly what I'm looking for. Now I need to find some wheels/tires that won't rub.

A late on a response buy I am also riding Tein Basics. I've owned Tein Flex, and Eibach springs prior. The basics feel optimal for street and occasional track days. Like cannonballer said they are a little bouncy noticably on the freeway when there is a dip in the road. The Tein Flexes I had prior were much much harsher of a ride. For daily use I wouldn't recommend them. Even on the softest setting they were almost to harsh still. Get Basics you won't regret it. Also they are rebuildable unlike other brands of coilovers.
