Thinnest front sway bar for 03 WRX?
Hey all,
I was wonder if there are any front sway bars that are thinner than stock for a 03 WRX. I know the stock front is 20mm, I have also read that the STi front sway bar that comes with the SPT package is 19mm (I think). I was wondering if there are any manufacturers that make either thinner (18mm) or adjustable front sway bars that have thinner settings. I know I could run without a front sway bar but I would really like to have one in the front. If you guys know what vendors sell them, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Suraj

Why not just go with a larger rear sway bar? I had my front disconnected with the rear stocker in tact and I did achive the throttlesteer that I was looking for but the front end felt a bit unstable to me. Kinda like it was flopping around for lack of a better description. I then went with a fatty rear and hooked up thr front stocker again and it felt ALOT better. The front end was stable at turn-in with tons of bite and once I was commited I would have the throttlesteer that I was looking for.
Not sure, but I think simply going bigger, you might start losing traction which doesn't seem like its worth the oversteer, It also might negatively affect the ride, theres reasons theres not a 30mm swaybar in the back
not sure tho, all I know is from reading other peoples, not personal experience

I ran the STi 19mm front bar in conjunction w/ the oem rear 20mm bar on my 02 sedan. I also ran it w/ a Cusco GC8 bar as well (19.5mm-21.5mm). Both combinations were very good (the Cusco gave me more options). I had previously ran bigger bars f/r (Cusco) and much prefer the the 19/20 combo- I get the same overall handling that I want- neutral (w/ a hint of understeer) w/o the "penalty" of running bigger bars- namely loss of independence in the suspension.
If I was running consistently on smooth tracks- the bigger bars would be fine, but in addition to running at the track- I also autox (sometimes crappy lots), rallyx (where the smaller bars really shine) and a variety of "real" roads where smoothness is not guaranteed.
I have since bought a wagon and am going to try the same combo- the GC8 front bars are 19mm- if there are no fitment problems, that's what will be on the front of my wagon.
big sky

I dont know of any smaller bars off-hand. The OEM legacy turbo swaybar from the early '90's models were also 19mm. That crossmember in the legacy is nearly identicle to the WRX crossmember too, might work... I have one of the legacy bars I can test if need be.
Note: I run a 19mm front and 20mm OEM rear on my '95

If you could that would be great. I have since read somewhere that there may be fitment issues w/ the gc8 (rs) bars exactly for the reason you mention- the crossmember being different on the turbo (gg).
The overall length measured would be worthwhile if possible as well. I'm pretty sure they would be the same length as the gc/gg, but better to be safe.
Thanks
Mike
