suspension idiot here

Ok when it comes to suspension everything sounds like japanese to me. I have an 04' wrx. I have new 17" rims with 225/45/17 tires. I think that my whell gap is excessive. I would like to drop the front an inch maybe a little more and the back maybe 3/4" or more i don't know. I have don't have alot of money left to mod due to the rims, tbe, and ecu reflash. I would like to retain some of the ride quality, I also know that i need front and rear sway bars. I will get those but i want the car a little lower first. I need some suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your primary beef is with the appearance of the car (citing the wheel gap). If that's the case, you'd definately want to get something like springs before upgrading your rear swaybar (the front will not need to be changed, unless you get a really wacky setup and are getting oversteer). There are plenty of springs around that will drop the car around an inch and should still retain the ride quality you've cited as an important factor.

Perrin and Tein offer springs that lowers the car around 2" up front/ 1.5" in the rear. For a less aggressive drop, Eibach, Prodrive or SPT springs lowers the car around 1". You can still use your stock struts, depending on how many miles you have on them already. The more aggressive drop springs will wear out your struts at a faster rate.
