It's been mentioned before, mostly regarding the WRXs. The ABS calibration seems to be overly sensitive and slow to recover. My ABS has been triggered by applying only moderate pedal pressure while driving over a manhole cover with a pronounced step. I've triggered my ABS several times under what I consider only moderate braking.

I've read somewhere that Subaru calibrated the ABS for the new school Impreza on a frozen lake bed in Japan and another one in the U.S. If that's true, those are pretty extreme conditions to induce brake lockup. There also seems to be too much forward bias because Subaru does not want to risk any rear brake lockup that might result in an oversteer condition in a corner.

They may have taken too conservative an approach when they developed the ABS for certain models.

Stickier tires than RE92s might delay the onset of ABS activation in theory but even after going to a medium grip tire like the Goodrich KDWs, I've still encountered ABS if there is the slightest bit of road irregularities or a little bit of grit on the road. That's using the stock size 205 55-16" so a wider footprint with stickier tread than stock should be more noticeable.

I put a switch on the 10 amp relay fuse. For daily driving I leave the ABS on, if I'm going to be driving hard, I turn the ABS off. ABS = Anti-Braking System
