Strange thumpping when turning right. Help Please (1/12/04)

I am still gettign this strange thumping sound when I am turning right and doing about 20+ MPH say on enterance and exit ramps. I do not get the noise or thumpping when I turn left.

It sounds like it is coming from the left front wheel but I can nto figure out what is wrong. THe CV boot is one there and not ripped and I don't think it is alingment cause hte car drives straight on the highway and all.

I have changed my wheels between summer and winer to different wheels and rims but I dont see that being the cause.

I replaced my rotors a while back but don't see that causing it eithr.

Got any ideas my warranty is up real soon and I have to find a place that will listen in my area where I can take a mechanic out and reproduce the noise for him cause they can never seem to do it.

I need help.

I have the same problem except it's when I turn left. As for myself, it seems as though my bushings on my sway bar need some grease. Don't know if it's the same for you.

My passenger side CV joint (inner) lost most of its grease with no teltale signs on the boot. there must have been a pinhole or something. Check real close and make sure the grease is still in there.

Take it to the dealer. Take a tech for a drive and show him the problem. Get it fixed before the warranty is up. Just don't take it to Colonial in Feasterville PA. Bad people. I hear that Glanzman in Willow Grove is good.

CV Boot or Wheel Bearing my guess. Take it to the $tealer, soon if you are almost out of warranty.

Did you check both CV boots? It could be the inner one. Also it doesn't have to be torn to be bad.
Grab it and try to twist it back and forth like the gas on a motorcycle and if there is any play it needs replacing.

I never twisted the CV boot but it looked ok.

A wheel bearing would only make the noise when turning in one direction?? Wheel bearings are expensive to fix right???

Crap. IT is so cold it is hard for me to get under there and do anything right now.

What dealerships are good. I have gone to Armen Subaru and I hated the guy there. I was nto totally happy with Limerick Subaru either but I would definitly give them a chance again. I did not hate them. I just need to get them to let me take a tech for a test drive.

Yes I have totally stock suspension.

I never checked it real close. It is too cold right not to do it but I will try.

If there is no greese what happens? Does the problem go away with a new boot and more grease? Or is there damage there from nto havign grease that will never go away?

if there is no grease in the boot, or the booty got road crud in it somehow, you might have a bad axle. we have a car at the shop i work at that has two bad axles up front, very annoy to drive it. but the description you gave sounds a lot like a bad cv joint.

They may at first, as thats when most stress is put on the wheel bearing is when turning or hard braking, as it gets worse it may thump whenever you are moving.

Ok now it is making a new noise. When makign a slow turn like a 3-point turn or just turning the wheel while at a standstill the wheels seem to make a clicking noise when they get to the almost fully turned position.

What could this be???

Is that a sign it is a CV boot issue or woudl that mean a wheel bearing or something else? I take it to the dealer this week but want to knwo what is what so I do nto gt dicked by the dealer.

This noise sounds like the outer CV joint.

Remember it's not actually the boot. It's the joint inside the boot.
