Sounds coming from Suspension
Hey guys,
I have a problem with my helix DNA coilover. What happen was i drove around SF last friday and hit a few hard bumps. Then later that night i heard some Clicking or i should say it sounds like the springs are getting turned the its like rubbing against something. But i can't tell. Now its just really bad everytime i turn the steering wheel i hear the spring twisting and rubbing. I took out my wheel and check for lose stuff but there isn't any. Oh and it is only coming from the front left one. I can't figure out whats going on. I only had these coilover for about 3K miles. Any Suggestion or comments would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
WRX.

No big deal, we all have to learn about these things and none of us are born with the knowledge. My reply was kind of vague. Tops are exactly what they sound like they would be. They are mounted to the body (strut tower) and connected to the dampener shaft. On your setup the top is the camber plate.
I'm not familiar with the DNA's but my GC's make noise when the bearings need to be greased. I have this problem when the bearings that are between the upper spring perch and my camber plates need to be greased. When I turn the wheel the bearings don't roll so the spring is twisted and eventually pops back into position making a popping noise. I know the sound I'm describing is different than yours but if it sounds like the springs are moving and rubbing I'd guess the spring is twisting in the upper spring perch.
Not sure this is your problem but it could be. You might want to talk to others with the DNA's to see how often theirs need to be greased.

oh I get it. Well, I found some time this weekend and took both wheels off in the front and i found out that the side that doesn't make any sound i can't turn the spring with my bare hands, As for the one making the noise i can most the turn the spring with my hands. Is the spring suppose to be Turnable or is it suppose to sit tight between the two rings.

Okay the noise got worse. i took off the wheel and tighten everything up and gave it a good preload too. But the noise is just getting worse. Now everytime i go over a bump or something it klonks. So What i did was take it to a mech. and he told me its sounds like the bearing on top of the spring is broken. He told me to take off the coilovers and see... My question is What is a bearing? or is there even such a thing on the upper part of the coilover?

Oh... IC i'll take it off the car and see if i can find that bearing. But when i hit bumps, i hit 2 in a row and afterward i heard something that sounded like a piece of metal falling out... it sounded pretty bad at the time but i didn't feel anything was wrong w/ the car until later that night. I don't know if my coilovers are under warranty i brought them from Gruppe-S back in sept.
They shouldn't fail from 2 hard bumps but who knows. Have you checked all the suspension components around that wheel just in case. I know I've hit some big bumps hard with my Koni/GC setup with no problems.
I'm pretty sure they have a 1 year warranty http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...=184688&page=4 . The guys in the link above have had problems waiting for parts from Gruppe-S so hopefully they can get you a replacement quick if the problem is with the coilovers. I know I had to wait a loooong time to get my rear group N tops from them.

Hey MO Rex Thankz for all the help! Finally got around to take out the whole suspen. I found it really dirty so i cleaned it up and greased it and re bolt it on just like u suggest in the beginning. Lucky Everything sounds fine for now! THank YOU!
Glad to hear it was a cheap fix. Hopefully it'll stay that way.
Did you inspect the bearings and if so did everything look OK? If the bearings are bad (I doubt they are) the grease might only last so long.
