Rear '93 JDM WRX brakes...
Rear '93 JDM WRX brakes...
In comparison (sp?), what are the JDM WRX brakes off of a '93 compared to? ie- RS, WRX, etc... the discs and such will be resurfaced, and new pads installed.
Good setup or not, JDM WRX rear brakes and Subaru 4pot or other in the front?? Installed on MY93 wagon, and yes there will be some good power to stop

Joe,
The 93 WRX has the same rear brake setup as the RS, US WRX, and LX Impreza or L w/ rear disc brakes. I would upgrade the to Pagid pads, DBA slotted rotors, Goodridge SUS lines and the MRT master cylinder bracket. Those pieces in association with the 4 pots make for an awesome brake upgrade for not alot of money.
Hope this helps.

Not entirely true. The rear brakes on the WRX I believe where vented also. Essentially, the rear brakes are off a turbo legacy rear end. I know that the WRXs had vented rear discs at some point.
I will definitely install some new pads, but everything else may stay as the 93 wrx stock stuff, considering I won't have money left over at the time of the engine, tranny, drivetrain, etc etc install. I will down the road probably upgrade the rears to a better 2-pot setup. I was already planning on doing Goodridge SUS lines.

Good luck finding goodridge lines. I had spend about 3 months looking for those lines and found nothing. Apparently, one distributor told me that Goodridge does not make the lines for the older cars anymore. I suggest that you try StopTech lines. They are much higher quality and come with extra hardware.

ImprezaRSDriver,
The GD/GG USDM WRX has only a solid rear rotor with dimensions of 266mm dia. x 10mm thick (the 93 GC/ GF JDM WRX has exactly the same dimensions). The Legacy Turbo has dimensions of 266mm dia. x 18mm thick the factory ran this because of the larger legacy chassis. The vented rear is inherently a cooler running stock rotor but with a good slotted or cross drilled rotor this is actually more efficient.
stenorian,
I have the Goodridge SUS lines in stock at the dealer for the 93-01 Impreza w/ rear disc (pn 24212). The StopTech and Goodridge are both very good quality products so it basically comes down to brand preferences.

The rotors are indeed the same on the 93 wrx and the GD/GG usdm cars. However the calipers are different enough that the pads are not interchangeable.
Some people have also performed the incorrectly named "H6" upgrade which uses the 290x10mm rotor (from the 2000+ usdm Legacys with rear discs.) The older caliper is also not compatible with this upgrade.
An important difference between the Stoptech and Goodridge lines is that the Stoptech lines are sheathed. IMO, this in itself is worth the extra effort to find them.

Thanks for all the info, it is greatly appreciated.
Just thought of another question, best 4-pot front setup that will fit under 99RS wheels? I was looking at the STI, but then was looking at the Willwood/Perrin setup (cheaper). Any others that anyone would recommend? They will be used to stop my wagon at install of around 300hp (for now) after engine swap.

Out of all those available probably the best one is the Godspeed UK kit using a 308mm rotor. However it is over $1000 for only a 14mm increase over a WRX rotor.
Of all the choices, I believe the best for the buck is the STi kit. The Perrin/Wilwood kit is only slightly cheaper(550 vs 575 both prices excluding the rotors) and is not an option to me. The P/W kit calipers lack dust shields and were never designed to be the front caliper on a car the weight of an Impreza. Wilwood makes a 6pot caliper designed for the front of the Subarus but again this is quite a bit more and wont fit under that wheel.
Also remember when you upgrade the front calipers without considering the rears, you can upset the overall bias on the vehicle and make the car actually stop worse.
To estimate how your changes are gonna affect overall f tor r bias on your car you need the current caliper piston number and sizes on the car as well as the rotor diameters.

Well hate to say I just got a lay off notice that Feb 21st is my last day at work here....So in other words I told the vendor that unless they can hold the clip and stuff longer then they will have to go ahead and sell it. So thanks for all the help, and I will be back once I get a new job
Don't worry, maybe 3rd time wil be the charm for getting the engine swap done!
