Premature KYB AGC failure help

Hello All,
I purchased a 2002 WRX with KYB AGC's front and rear and Ground Control coilovers. I am guessing that the KYB's must be the old RS 2.5 spec, as KYB wasn't making the WRX shock when this guy installed them. Both rear shocks are blown with only 12k miles on them, why did this happen? Is it due to the shocks being used in the wrong application? What are the problems with using RS 2.5 shocks on my WRX? Should I just warranty the shocks and replace them with another set of KYB's, or move on and find something else? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Too low a drop or too stiff a spring rate.
I'm guessing it was lowered too far. MAX lowering is 1.5" from stock.
Get the WRX struts for the back and be happy.
