Outback rear brake upgrade for WRX. WOrth it?
From what I gather and I plan to do this myself one day...
Under high speed braking the rear is less twitchy. That and if you do track days, having a larger vented rotor is a good thing.

It's not vented, it's solid just like the stock disc, which is how the stock caliper still works (a vented disc is much thicker and would necessitate a different caliper). But it is significantly larger in diameter, which will give better cooling.
When I first installed it, I had stock front brakes with Metal Master pads. The most notable difference was in high deceleration rate stability (like braking reasonably hard on the freeway). It felt more controlled. Also I expained some of the other reasons I did it in another post just earlier today...
Easy and cheap, you don't even need new pads, just rotors and caliper brackets that any Subaru dealer should be able to get you in a few days if they don't have them in stock. Oh, you do have to bend the dust shield out of the way, but that's no biggie.

Wait is this not the same mod as the "H6 rear brake upgrade"
The rears are in fact vented, and roughly 1" larger then the WRX OEM rears.

Here is a link to the DBA drawing for the DBA equivalent rotor. My Subaru OEM rotors have very similar, if not exactly the same, dimensions.

That link you posted has one or two responses that talk about a different kit, the turbo legacy vented kit. That is slightly more expensive because you have to replace the calipers to accomodate the thicker (vented) rotor. Pad selection is more limited for those calipers as well. These old turbo legacy rears are the only rear vented rotor sold by SOA.
Vented rotors are significantly thicker than solid rotors, as you can see here:

18mm vs. 10mm so about 1/3rd of an inch. May not sound like much, but try to squeeze an extra even 1/4 inch clearance when putting in a new set of pads...won't happen.
If the rock you are on is anywhere near the Bay Area, I invite you to come see that my rotors are not vented.

Link to the Legacy rear brake upgrade. H6 Upgrade is a misnomer. All Legacys after 2000 have the larger rotors. This upgrade goes for the WRX and RS:

There is another option
The brakes I have on my car - 2000+ B4 and GT-B brakes
This setup uses the 290x18mm vented rear rotor. Same larger diameter as the "H6" upgrade(as Peaty said a misnomer) but vented as well and squeezed by a single pot rear caliper. This is the same rotor used with the 2pot rears.
