off road suspension question
Hi all.
I occasionally take my car onto the dirt (nothing extreme though lol) and I would like a little more ground clearence sometimes. My dilemma is this: I use this car as a daily driver and I want it to be streetable again after I get it back onto the highway. What would be your recommendation as far as a suspension setup? In a perfect world, I would like to be able to make the changes easily .
Thanks,
Tim

if your definition of "streetable" is being able to handle like stock or better, then lifting your car can still allow it to be streetable. you CAN lift the car and handle better than stock! maybe not better than a track tuned car on a track, but close.
if this is your thing, you can do anything from stealing springs from your neighbors forester to an all out rally suspension. a simple spring upgrade will do the trick. (Eibach ERS springs or Forester springs) or springs + struts for a better effect or you can get DMS rally's or TEIN HG's or Proflex (in any trim - mild to wild)
In any case, a height adjustment is FAR from easy! The easiest height adjustment is the PRAXIS air spring suspension, but there is no way to lift the car and have a stiff spring rate. IF you want a offroad useable height adjustment, it'll take you like at least 30 minutes to crank the coilovers up or down... and in my past experience, you'd have to be doing all four at once to even come close to finishing in 30 minutes.
