Question Lowering springs question

I'm trying to get some lowering springs for my car. Has anyone heard of TANABE GF210 LOWERING SPRINGS? Anything good? Or what about the Megan Racing Lowering Springs. Let me know. Thanks

You can just get springs. You will need an alignment after also.

so when should you use a coilover kit ? i mean is it a thing you use when you want a large amount of drop and is the sti a performance type and there needs no change?

Springs are a simple way to lower your ride height with a preset stiffness and are usually used with stock struts or adjustable struts (tokico, kyb, etc.) Coilovers are used for a wide range of adjusting your ride hide, damping settings, etc. and are usually costly. But some coilover manufacturers offer entry level coilovers that are less pricey. STI is a "in house" tuning company for Subaru so to speak. Hope this helps....anyone else have their two cents ?

well i was told that if i just put lowering springs (1.5" front and 1.0" back) it will blow out my stock shocks..? i just wana lower my car a little for a more aggresive stance and better handling but i dont want to do anything thats gonna damage something else.

Some springs are made to "work" with stock struts, Ive heard a few were good such as RCE "yellow" springs and the Prodrive springs as for Tanabe I really havent heard anything much about their lowering springs, but that is what trial and error is all about so take that leap if need be.

see that's the same thing i heard, that if you don't put the right springs made for a subaru then you could blow out your shocks. I'm the same, i'm looking for just a simple drop with a meaner look and better handling.

As far as handling...do spring really make a difference on your handling? Although I know it lowers the center force of gravity, i've heard they don't make a difference at all towards handling. But i still think they do. What do you guys think?

well this is from a description for tanabe GF210's

"The GF210 coil spring is geared towards maximum performance, without compromising daily driveability. A subtle drop provides an aggressive stance, while the higher spring rates (+20% - 30% over stock) provide excellent handling and vehicle stability characteristics. These springs provide a very noticeable gain in performance when installed.

The GF210 is well mated with a performance shock upgrade to extract the full potential of the coil spring, but will also work with factory equipment.

Each coil spring application is tested for fitment and optimal weight distribution for sportier handling."

Some of these "lowering springs" do increase your handling over stock depending on the application and some can make it worse such as excessive bouncing kind of like if you would to cut a coil off your springs, which is pretty ghetto in my humble opinion. If you want to read about what other people have used to help you make a decision on the route you want to go there may be a parts review on this forum if not check out NASIOC I believe they have one too.
