What don't you like about the KYB's? Just curious, I'm running AGX's with Eibach springs on my '02 wagon and they don't suck, a little overdamped but a great improvement over stock. If I were doing it again, I'd probably go with the Koni's though, I hear good things about them.

I run the Koni's and STi pinks on my wagon. I couldn't be happier. The Koni inserts are valved for OEM springs on thier softest setting. Even while running the STi pinks it only takes a single turn on a four corners to liven up the dampening. As for day to day ride quality, on the softest setting with the pinks, it's wonderful. Very responsive, not jarry what so ever, yet when asked to perform, they proudly rise to the challenge. They just get better as you stiffen them up. I have yet to go past 2 1/2 turns. I smashed through some hard canyon driving and was amazed by what I have been missing. Granted I'm coming from OEM strut with pink springs, so there was much improvment to be made. From those that have riden in my car, statements like "coilovers but with comfort" and "wow" are not uncommon. The great part about the Koni's is the warranty, lifetime limited, rebuilt here in the US. They are also customizable, if you decide you'd like more dampening, they can be revalved for your setup. Koni will assist you in this. Seriously I don't think you can go wrong with these. The up front cost is quite a bit more but in the long run, you have the best non-coilover setup you can have for your car. If your like myself, don't like coilovers, you'll have the best.

On a side note, you would also do yourself a big favor, dumping the Eibach springs. Try on a set of Crucial or Pinks. You'll be a much happiers driver.

that is exactly why the KYB's bug me>overdamped. They are SOO jarring, even on the smallest bups and especially freeway expansion cracks. Our roads might be some of the worst around. We live at 7000 ft and snow messed up all the roads a long time ago. I am definitely leaning towards a KONI set-up at present. As far as the initial cost it is nothing compared to the beating I took with the AST' and G-4's we just went through. Also the KYB's were close to 500 which is not that much cheaper than the KONI's, I could have easily made 3 house payments with that money.lol. Right now we have 2 sets of springs laying around> stock and STI Version 7 and looking for another. It will defintiely have to be a progressive wound type. The ones we have in mind now are EIBACH PRO and CRUCIAL...and maybe PRODRIVE. I love hearing feed back like ipoz'...first hand knowledge is hard to come by...I need to seek out someone running these and ride with them..thanks Danielle

That's cool, I was just curious what your experience with the AGX's was. They are a bit harsh, but I stand by my assessment that they don't suck, they were good enough to help me win a regional autocross championship.

I also drive horrendous roads! I drive from 2100' to 7000' everyday on 2 lane mountain roads maintained by the federal government, egads, I had to sell my Hotchkis camber plate setup because the slider plates would bend after a couple of months use. Cusco plates hold up to the abuse, by the way.

yep I bet they are perfect for autocross. AND I understand where you live. I have been in the sierras for awhile and I go up and down Donner Summit (I live at Soda Springs) everyday all day. What I am asking for is a little give or progression for the all the imperfections + some high speed dampening on top of that. It looks like you know Tioga Pass pretty well. Wow. I drove that road a few times from the backside and it climbed hard and fast until the truck we were in basically ran out of AIR and slowed significantly. We were up there to climb some rock and I THINK the road tops out at close to 10,000 ft. I might have been a little harsh on the KYB's so I apoligize for that..I will check out the KONI's and a possible revalve to suit my little corner of hell. I've been around the track and cars my whole life despite the fact that I'm a girl. I understand all the dynamics involved to make a car handle and am serious about getting this Subaru where I want it to be. I did'nt do a full 2.5 swap for nothing. As far as the EIBACH springs it lucky that GROUND CONTROL is only and hour and half from me if I decide to go with the EIBACH's. STILL if anyone has a combination strut/spring that works let me know, and I agree with you about the CUSCO plates . I had them on my AST set-up and they were stout. Thanks Danielle

No need to apologize for not liking the KYB's, we basically agree.

Tioga Pass is an awesome road, I worked 7 summers in Tuolumne, most of them at the store up there. I now live in El Portal and work up at Badger Pass as a ski lift mechanic.

cool. lift tech. life blood of the hill. El Portal>Big Tree. That' quite a climb Do you drive the Subie to work? AND by the way it's dumpin' here at DONNER SUMMIT at the mement..pretty good. I am thinking about taking the Subie out to play. I live on old 40>a great road and empty...except for wildlife. I am also wondering if these KYB's will ever loosen up. I only have about 1000 miles on them I believe. I try to drive in the truck lane real fast to beat on em' just to possibly loosen them up a bit.lol

I drive the Subie until the snow gets deep, I drive up before the snow plows when it starts dumping so a truck is kinda necessary. This winter has been pretty dismal though. Hopefully that's over with these storms.

Ditto. I have an IZUZU 4wd truck for the DEEP STUFF. My car is set up for winter now with 215/60/16's Michelin A/S siped , stock springs, skid plates, nudge bar, etc. so I can push the envelope a bit. here's a pic of my current set up/ride height w/kyb' and stock springs

Sweet, good thing it's not white, you certainly won't get lost in a snow bank, dressed in Sonic yellow

Uhhh..SONIC? I think not...original BLAZE YELLOW from only '02. Only 400 or so made. Sonic is '03 and TOO BRIGHT for my taste...like taxi cab yellow. Although I have seen a Sonic Yellow wagon w/black roof and carbon fibre hood that was to die for..the guy hangs out on WRX MODDERS.COM a favorite site of mine. Still not a lot of yellow WRX's out there and you never see them in snow banks too long. lol
