It is neither. The fan was on because the car was hot.

The only suspension that will get close in comfort yet have great handling is the WR Sports

you want the handling and comfort of a bmw, then trade your car in for a bmw. you can't turn a subaru into a bmw

There are quite a few decent spring and strut setups that will make your subie handle like a BMW, but the BMW costs a hell of a lot more because of all the sound deadening materials they use. My current GC coil over w/konis and r compound tires out handles most M-3's around, but the sound in the cabin is 10x louder and the vibration is much more as well.

I had a '97 540i 6 speed and it came with the video and audio tape. On the tape it explains that BMW spends as much time designing how a car should sound and smell as they spend designing how it should look and perform. They spend tons on R&D trying to make it smell and sound just right. All of that adds to the experience of the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Subie, hell no, they are trying to produce a performance car with low emissions at a low price. Example: next time you are in that Bimmer, check out the carpet compared to your "mat" in the Subaru. Man, I would love to have a carpet like that in my home! It is like that throughout the car. Padding is everywhere. The post above that says add 1000 lbs is exactly right, it is all sound and vibration control (smoke and mirrors).

However, for suspension they use mcpherson strut with a large coil over it, usually the struts are Bilstein and the springs are a special rate and size made by eibach, they also have sway bars . . . .does this sound familiar?

But, when it comes down to it, I would rather take the Subie and the cash left over from the sale and lower insurance and go have some fun and not feel like a self concious yuppie or dink. The grass is not greener on the BMW side, it just smells, sounds and looks greener.
