Question GREX/ALCON brakes availability for rex?

Do they actually make grex/alcon 4-pot brakes for the 02-03 wrx?....(I know they have prodrive/alcon though)
If so can someone direct me to a vendor or website that carries this?.....Thanks

I think you'd be hard pressed to find something better from Alcon for the WRX than the Prodrive kit. I would assume that they at least did some testing in the development of that kit in regards to piston diameters and were able to achieve measurably and consistently better performance. Any kit that is pieced together from existing race calipers would likely not achieve that level of performance.

As you may have noticed the price and rotor design of that kit leave something to be desired. I am not aware that Alcon is selling aftermarket big brake kits in the US at this point outside of their current deal with Prodrive.

What are you looking for in a BBK or brake upgrade?

WOW that looks really good, how much could you get them for with tax and shipping to san francisco?....Also I noticed that it's only available for the older models on the link you posted, so would this fit on 02-03 wrx?
Thanks for the info!!

I might be interested in the 6 pot and was just wondering on how long does it take for you to get them? Also a 330 will fit under most 17s right but what about a set of Rota Slipstreams that are 16x7? Please keep me up to date.......

seriously doubt they will fit 16's and only specific 17" wheels. It depends if Greddy has it in stock in US or not. If they do within a week.

can anybody here tell me why 6 piston calipers are better than 4 piston calipers?

Probably a tad bit more stopping power, but I guess not much more different from 4 piston other than the obvious price/size (from my knowledge, so I could be wrong).........

A 6 piston caliper does not offer any greater "stopping power" than a 4 piston caliper. If you think about it, your stock calipers have plenty of "stopping power." You can lock the front wheels at any speed without much trouble at all.

What you need to do is tell me exactly what characteristics you want to improve about your brake system, and I can then tell you exactly how to achieve your goals.

Thanks,
Tim

Aahhhh, I see what you're saying....Well as of now I am upgrading my turbo soon to either vf34 or pe1818..I'm hoping that this big brake kit(grex/alcon 6 piston) would give me crazy stopping power that would be as good even after upgrade to stage 2 and on....I know upgrading pads/ss brake lines/changing my rotors/tires would be pretty good already for stopping, but I guess I want something to last so I wouldn't have to replace them as much in the future...

Well, I haven't had a chance to take a look at these particular Alcon calipers, but unless whoever is selling this kit (Greddy, GREX, Alcon?) has calculated the correct piston sizes for the WRX, it may not even stop better than the stock system. Andrew, I'd like you to read this article and let me know if it all makes sense. Feel free to click on my name and send me an email if you have any questions, otherwise I'm happy to answer any questions you might have here so that other people who might have similar questions can learn as well.
