front rotor wear
i have 18,000 miles on my wrx and the front rotors already have groves in them. has anyone else had this problem?
it just seems that its a little soon to have to turn my rotors. my pads have plenty left on them. also what would cause this pre-mature wear?

I had the same problem with my car. I brought my car to the dealership because I had some REALLY deep grooves in my driver's side brake rotor. They said the WRX comes with some pretty hard brake pads, and that's what causes the grooves. It's really nothing to worry about though. If you really persist, the dealership will re-surface the rotors for you. The grooves will still come back however.

Yep
There are lot's of people I have heard with this pro. my brakes are suck and a friend of mine went to the dealer to try and get them warranted...the dealer tried to blame it on the 17" rims, went to a nother dealer and got the issue resolved. I have also heard people talking about them not able to get warrantied?
Not sure, personally I don't even want to deal with it and I am just going to get Stoptechs or Brembo's.

welcome to the club... Its normal, or so they say. The reason the guy here gave me was that the brake pads needed break in time which I thought was a load of BS. The grooves are still there and I'm at 18,000. But on the other hand at least they still work. Oh well the upgrades almost here. By the way it the grooves are really bothering you just make a big stink about how hard the car pulls the the left/right when braking also let them know how unsafe the car feels. I dont think they'll put up much of a fight. my .02

The brake pads probably hang up on the harder parts of
the rotor and tear it away little by little hence the reason
for the groves. I havent checked mine yet but if it's true
with all WRXs and I have close to 30k on mine, I'm sure
I do.
(then again, I dont brake much, heh)

4500 miles on my 2002 WRX and both front Rotor's are scored badly. I don't care what Subaru claims this *is* not something that should be happening. It may be "normal", but only due to poor design or part choice. I don't drive the WRX hard, so there is no reason the rotors should be gouged like they are.
The stock brakes are indeed very poor. I brought my 02 back to the dealership after the rotors were severely warped at 5000 miles. I believe they rotated the rotors of all four brakes and did so for free under warranty, as they should. Also the pads were replaced under warranty but they claimed at 9000 miles (which I'm just hitting) I'll have to get the whole brake system checked. The brakes are totally bogus and I'm disappointed in this low quality aspect of the car. As of now there are close to 10000 miles on the car and the rotors are warping and the brakes squeal when cold.
BTW I'm looking into a big brake kit to end these problems, and definitely will not take my warranty work to Ron Price Subaru as Mrs. Price never returned my call.
