Does anyone like the ABS in the snow??
Just got some fresh snow here in Oregon and I forgot how annoying the ABS really is in it.
I drove a bit last night and decided that fuse had to go...what a pita.
Wondered if anyone liked it??

Argh, totally useless for me. Infact I went up on a curb tonite thanks to ABS

Install a ScoobyMods.com on/off switch.
Another WRX owner does the ABS switch mod.
My fuse has been pulled for one year. My ABS activated going over manhole covers on dry ground, under moderate braking.
EDIT#1: ScoobyMods .url for mod.
EDIT#2: I wouldn't bother using a lighted switch to arm/disarm the ABS - you'll know when the ABS is switched off because the ABS check light in the dash display will be lit.

hmmm, i was looking for something (inexpensive) and productive to do tommorow...maybe i'll wire up an ABS disconnect. 
that and finish installing my supertones....

Yep, I hate it now, too. I hadn't driven my WRX in the snow until this week since I didn't take it to MN with me. All of the sudden my pedal won't push down and it feels like there is no brakes at all... I'd much rather do a controlled slide, too.

Agree, ABS in my car blows, it feels super weird when it comes on even when not in the snow. It is the worst in dirt. It doesn't even make that much of a difference, its only purpose in the car is so that you don't screw up your rotors by slamming the brakes to hard ( I feel).

I had Kumhos on when I got my Rex used, and they were horrible in the snow all around. I since have Dunlop Wintersport M2s, and they only set off the ABS with really agressive braking after the treads pack up. Otherwise, little ABS action.
I do get some ABS in the summer months when the road drops off in a turn and the front wheels unweight.

Good info site on ABS. The guy himself drives a WRX. This guy knows too much about it though...Makes you feel stupider. According to his page, more grip in the tire for a WRX enhances ABS performance because the ABS was given a lot of slack for snow and dirt purposes when it was designed. (thats what I got out of the article.)

Tires with more traction for a given surface will always enhance ABS driving. Stickier tires in the dry and wet will delay the onset of the ABS compared with the factory Potenza RE92s. True winter tires will do the same for the ABS on snow or icy surfaces.
I still believe the calibration for the WRX ABS is too sensitive. I read somewhere (wish I could remember the links) that Subaru tested and calibrated the ABS on a frozen lake bed in Japan and another one in the U.S. How often do we drive on a sheet of ice?

yup, PITA...rather than disable it, i've learned to deal. it's safer to take it real slow and brake really early.
i don't think ABS should be disabled, but that's just my personal opinion.

mine sometimes kicks in when i'm moderately on the brakes (not enough to lock them up, i grew up driving cars w/o ABS) over rough pavement. its strange, 'cause i *know* there is more grip available for braking, but the ABS doesn't seem to agree.
