When installing coilovers in a2003 wrx do you need to disconnect the brake lines?

Thanks in advance

no disassemble johnny #5.... no you dont need to disassemble the brake lines son. All that you gotta do when you dealing with brake lines is that you need to take them off the stock strut, w/bolt+screw, w/clip. All of this is necessary to carry over to your NEW coilover setup. Any questions?

ps what coilovers did you buy?

Thanks Pimp.... I just purchased some BC Racing BR series coilovers. I am going to do the install once they come in but did not want to deal with bleeding the brakes. Hopefully they will be as good as they look.

I am not sure about the 2003, but for my 97 L, people advised me to cut the brake line bracket to get the brake line out.

Tips for you. I just did my set-up. The bolts in the top for the rears is a pain in the a**. No easy way to do it. Just.... quarter turn at a time.

What I found helpful was.. when bolting the top of the coilover on, just bolt the three bolts on top so there is still slack in the setup. Then bolt the hub down. This way, you can easily lift or reposition the coilover and hub to get those stupid bolts in.

Instead of using the brakelines, I just ziptied my brake lines onto the coilover itself. Just have to cut them if I ever need to remove the set-up.

Yeah... hope that helps.

It took me about 12 hours. Mainly because I was stupid. Haha. I would recommend to grab a friend and get him to help... or pay someone $150 to do it. The fronts are easy. It is the rears that are tricky.

Here is a short list of things I needed. Yours may differ.

12mm closed wrench
19mm socket
18" breaker bar
PB Blaster (or any other penetrating oil
19mm closed wrenched (I used one of the SAE that was equivalent)
Zipties
Torque wrench (that goes to 150 ft-lbs or more)

If you have an impact wrench... that makes it go a lot faster.

If I were to do it again. I think I could do it in a few hours. Maybe 5 or 6 instead of 12.

I got the Stance Coilovers.

The fronts took me about 3 hours, for a few reasons... trying to figure out how to get the first one on, PB Blaster soaking, and yeah. It isn't that hard. Just take your time. The rears were a little trickier. I ran into a few problems. It is just that one of the bolts for each corner of the rears are kind of unaccessible. Yeah...

I wonder if that's the same for the GC models. Anyways.... rears will always be a little trickier... unless you have a wagon.
