cheap coilovers

Are there any good coilovers under 1 grand? I want to lower my car, but I'm in college and have little money to spare.

Eibachs are good, but they don't lower your car all that much. I've heard some guys complain that they still have a huge wheel gap in the front wheels after using eibach. I've got the tein s-techs and i love them. The amount they lowered the wrx is very even, and the ride is not any harsher than stock IMO. If you've got the money though, i'd get the full coilover sets. You could probably find a good one used for about a grand.

Why is that? I've noticed that even with stock suspension my car looks higher in the front. You would think that it would be just as low or lower cuz of the engine. I mean its not horrible but noticeable. The eibach springs are supposed to lower what, an inch or so? You wouldn't think it would be that bad? Also, if I lower my car with my 17'' wheels will they rub? Thanks.

With the tein s-techs, it lowers the car 2" in the front, and 0.7" in the rear, so the appearance in the end is more even than the eibachs which drop about 1.3" in the front, and 1.2" in the rear or so. I've got 18x7.5 rims wrapped in 225/40/18's and also with a +42 offset, and i've experienced no tire rub whatsoever.

The tein s-techs usually run about $175 shipped or so, cheaper than the eibachs!

Unhappy

I could only find s-techs for a wrx, not a 99 impreza 2.2L

How long have you had the S techs on your ride and are you using them with the stock struts? I am looking to get some springs and use them with the stock struts, but am worried about the stockers wearing out too quickly.

Has anyone heard about ground control or drop zone? Ground control coilovers are about 400 with shipping and drop zones are 2 something. I would go with eibach or tein but i dont want a lot of fender gap in front with eibachs and i couldnt find teins for my 99 2.2L. Should I get ground control or drop zones or just keep looking?

You don't want to drop the car more then 1.5 inches without proper struts. Your ride will be bery bouncy and while the car will look good from a side, it will have much harsher ride and worse handling then even stock. Pro-Kit is good with stock struts or AGX's or Koni's. if you get GC's, unless you don't lower them too much and have them ordered with a soft spring, you will regret it.
My advice is to get matching set of springs/ struts or as the original question was, get Teins, B&G or GC with Koni inserts or AGX's.
Also the pro-Kit does not raise the front, rather when a sedan kit is put on a wagon, the rear will actually sit lower then the front.
