brembo's sqeeking at 4K, help!
My front brembo's on the STi just started squeeking over the past two days. They seem to squeek when the brakes are warmed up and only happen when I come to a complete stop, not when I'm decelerating. Also, the squeek loudly when I brake going reverse. Is this a big concern? What do you guys think is going on? Thanks!

wrcsti: My STi always squeek on reverse, very loud after washing. Around 4k it started to squeek exactly as you describe. I plan to discuss with STi mechanic in 1k miles, when I take in for 7500 miles check. Read somewhere the squeek (and the excessive brake dust) was normal, but can't recall the post or site. I have the feeling this might be"normal" on the STi. Take care, Evil One.
mine squeaks when i had it at 300 miles. it still does at 3k. i also have a loud clank behind the passenger dash side when i start up the car too. dont know what it is? the only mod i have the is the air intake so i know there cant be too much to track down. anyone with any idea what it could be?

Mine WERE doing that (I have 02 JDM Subaru STI Brembo fronts on my 02 WRX, they are identical to 04 USDM STI brakes).
Removed the pads (which were about 1/2 to 2/3 gone), and put in the Cobb "Track" pads for the STI calipers. I also re-used all shims (after cleaning them) AND put a generous amount of the "anti-squeal" goop on the back of the pads (about $3 for a bottle at the parts store that'll last quite a few pad changes).
Net result : all squealing is GONE, and these pads work noticably better than the STI pads did anyways! The WRX brakes almost as well as my 4000 lb tank of an Impala does now
(Note : the Impala is on a lot better rubber and has decidedly non-stock brakes on it, so that isn't a knock on my WRX but rather a complement).

I have found that high performance pads make some noise and a nice dusting of the wheels. This is usually when the pads are not fully heated up. My brakes have no squeal when I am driving hard or at the track. As others stated, reverse braking always gives a nice chirp.
I wouldn't bother your service department unless you think there is a problem other than the squeal. BTW, How many miles on your car? Maybe your pads are worn down. Have you looked?
Hope that helps.
