Brembo Rear Caliper extra part?

So my friend Joel and I were switching out the rotors on my '06 STI yesterday. When we took the rear calipers off, there was a piece bolted into the same holes as the caliper on the back side. It looked like a round counter-weight of some kind. It wasn't connected to anything that we could see. Does anyone know what that piece is for?

It's a harmonic dampener and it's there for a reason.

The mass of the *** equals the angle of the dangle!!

BTW, Volvo looooved putting various masses on their cars; the 740/760 models had almost 30 pounds of dampening mass scattered all over the chassis.

It offsets certain vibrations which cause noise and... erm... vibration to be felt/heard through the chassis and brake pedal. Seems fairly straight forward. Not trying to be rude, but the way.
