Anyone have Perrin/Koni combo?

I'm looking to get rid of that horrible wheel gap like most others. 1.3-1.5 like eibachs give just doesnt do it for me so i was thinking more of a 1.9 or so like the perrins give. I know the KYBs wont last with these springs, what about Konis? And what is the ride quality like?

Anyone have experience?
thanks

Koni's should be able to handle it. Koni says not too go lower then 2 inches from stock, so 1.9 should be fine.
I've had Koni's on my race car that has about 2 inches of lowering compared to stock and they are still fine after all these years.
And the lifetime warranty is good to have too.

Hey Alex,
What do u think about the ride? Are they too race oriented for a good ride on the street?

Koni's? They have better ride then stock! It all depends how stiff you set them. As long as you set them to match the spring, they are very comfortable while still giving you much better performance. Even my super sensetive fiance' is ok now that I have Koni's on my Wagon. When I had AGX's, we would get into a fight every time she rode in the car.

19" is a bit too much. The bigggert I'd go with is 18's.

Very easy. Just make sure you have, cut-off wheel, impact gun, tie rod separator fork, drill with 1/4" and 1/2" drill bits, spring compressors and a hammer. Eye protection is highly recommended too.
Start by removing the struts from the car and using the spring compressors and the inpact gun remove the springs, noting the order everything goes on the strut. Then get an empty container and drill a 1/4" hole from the bottom of the strut. Try to get as close to the center as you can, this way when you drill the hole for the bottom retaining bolt for the Koni's, you have an easeir time. At this poing wype the fluid taht just spayed in you face ( hence eye protection) and using a super soaker style pumping, pump the fluid from the strut into the empy container.
Next using the separator fork and hamer, tap the steel ring on top of the strut off. Now you're ready for the cut-off wheel. using the cut-off wheel, cut 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch from the top of the strut. you only need to cut about 1/8" deep. When done remove the strut guts buy just pulling on the strut rod. Clean inside and outside (optional) and drill the hole on the bottom of the strut for the retaining bolt supplied with Koni's. Now take Koni insert and lube the sides of it with heavy grade oil. Insert it in the strut bod and using the separator fork and hammer, gently tap it until it bottoms out. Now put some blue locktight onthe retaining bolt and screw it into the bottom of the strut with supplied torque settings. Slip the rubber sleave over the top of the strut to cover the cut and you are now ready to put springs back and put the the strut back inthe car.

See, very easy.

wow, i wasnt aware Konis needed that. Do they make anything that leaves the stock struct in tact incase it is needed to put back in the car?

Yes, a used set that you get from someone that does not need them anymove.
LOL. Sorry I couldn't resist. Are you afraid that you may mess up the simple procedure like that?
Don't be. It's even simpler when you actually go and do it.

nah its not that. I think i can handle it. I just didnt want to go ruin a perfectly fine set of shocks with 5k on them in case i ever wanted to go back to stock for whatever reason. Oh well.

I see what you mean. Keep an eye out on private classifieds, there's always someone selling a used set.

Well, there is a custom made Koni's by Cobb that are complete strut and there's AGX's. You are talking about adjustibles right?
You'll still need to find springs though.

So Koni does not make a full strut? Only the inserts?
