Adjust wagon's rear damping.

Hi, I just had a shop installed some KYB/AGX WRX shocks on my wagon. Now the question is, how do I adjust the stiffness in the rear? I went to the trunk area and lifted off the carpet in the tower and saw some rubbery cover. Lifted those off and I see a round metal plate with 3 bolts. If I remove the 3 bolts, I think I can lift off the round metal plate and adjust my damping...but will that mess up my alignment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John

The damping won't have any affect on your alignment. Moving this to suspension forum for better responses.

If there isnt a screw adjuster on the top of the bolt on the strut, it might be the under the car version. Check on the strut under the car facing the inside of the car, should be a black cog looking thingy with numbers on it.

Thanks for the reply. I have the "top" version. I guess I am concerned because I am guessing that the 3 nuts are holding the shock in place. If I loosen them, so that I can remove the black metal plate to adjust the damping, then that will mess up my alignment, because I am basically loosening the strut.

maybe I can get a pic of what I am talking about tomorrow.

TIA,

John

Ya, take a pic... You shouldnt be having to disconnect the strut tops to adjust the screw adjuster...

John,

Loosening those nuts will not affect your aligntment. It's only when you un-install the strut itself that your alignment will be altered. Just make sure the car is not lifted off the ground when you do this so the strut will not slideoff. After you take the plate covers off, don't even bother putting them back on. Hope this helps.

Oh, thats just the strut top cover like Soren stated. Take it off and leave it off. The wagon ones are a little different, mine were just pop on plastic covers that come right off.

ditto ^^^^

Just take them off and put the nuts back on. I had to do the same thing when I had my coilovers. The shop didn't leave them off. But like MPJ said it doesn't effect alighment.
