'98 Wagon Suspension Replacement
OK, so all the threads that seem to refer to this topic are still confusing as he**. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to suspension and all the different USDM/JDM/Legacy/Impreza/sedan/wagon varients there are out there, and what is compatible. I'm hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light on the issue and provide at least an option or two.
So, I'll outline my problem, and then see what sorts of solutions there are:
Vehicle: 1998 Impreza L Wagon 5MT
Current suspension: Stock, 98k mi
Problem: Rear sags a lot, especially when any weight at all is placed towards the rear
Diagnosis: Struts need replacing
Solution: Why get the same factory struts again? I don't want it to start sagging again! I usually carry lots of cargo. I also don't want to lower the car!
Discussion:
I don't want to lower the car --- that probably leaves several aftermarket suspensions out. What about using other Subaru model suspension setups (Outback, Legacy, etc)? Is this easily done? Possible? That would be the best solution, as I don't want to sink a ton of cash into something that's not a real performance car. Could the rears just be changed to a stiffer strut or spring or something? So the Impreza OBS is a little higher off the ground. I've heard it's just some blocks/spacers. Can these be easily added to an L? What else would need to be changed?
Feel free to add to this....
Thanks in advance for any replies!
