2002 WRX GDA strut info PLEASE???
Hello there.
My friend has enlisted my help in installing some STI springs into his 2002 WRX. Now I have NEVER worked on a Subaru before except a stereo install, I am a Toyota man myself. I am new to Subaru, but not new to mechanics.
I wouldn't think that WRX struts would have any strange trick to them, would they? Are there any surprises that I might expect? I was wondering if anyone could answer the following questions so that I may be best prepared.
What bolt sizes does Subaru like? My Toyotas only use 10,12,14,17,19mm. Will I need to invest in SAE tools or anything?
Are the brake lines attached to the strut? In other words, am I going to have to disconnect the lines and bleed the brakes in order to remove the struts?
I am guessing that the struts are attached to the car by two bolts on the bottom and three on the top of the strut tower. Can someone tell me the torque specs for these bolts for front and rear? Also, the torque specs for the top nut that secures the upper mount on the strut?
If someone could tell me these things then I would be extremely grateful! It's just to ensure that another Impreza will SAFELY stay on the road.
Thanks!

It's just basic tools, nothing fancy or complicated at all. And no the lines are not attached to the strut like what your thinking. They are attached via bolts on the front and clips in the rear.
One thing that is sometimes tough is the lower strut bolts. YOu need a good impact gun or a long breaker bar

Ok, so no unique oddities with the WRX struts? Good.
I am no stranger to tough bolts. I am used to unbolting 18 year old rusted bolts fused to the surface that my 600ft-lbs impact gun can't even scratch.... crazy.
Anyone have the torque specs I need? I've been told that the three top nuts on the strut mount are around 14 ft-lbs. Is that right? How about the lower bolts and the big top nut?

Scooby Mods has step-by-step for the GC chassis. May not be exactly the same, but will be very, very close. Also, to avoid bleeding and refilling the brakes, cut the little tab on the strut that the line runs thorugh, like this:
