2002 WRX front brake pads
I need to replace the front brake pads on my 02 WRX and was wondering if anyone had any recomendations for replacement pads. Sould I go with the Subaru ones? I read that there are 2 different pad types for the 02 WRX's depending on when your car was built? Can anyone shed some light on this.
Thanks.
Thanks.
The brake pad shape changed between '02 and '03, but some people with '03s have '02 calipers. The 02 pads have a tab of 1/2" and the '03 have tabs of 3/8"
The easiest way to check to see what pads you need is just to measure the tabs. But with a '02, I'm positive that you've got the calipers that need the 1/2" tab.
As for pads, Axxis Ultimates are great for street driving. I have them on my Legacy (w/ '02 calipers/rotors) and I like them a lot.

I would recommend either BobCats or Panther Plus from Carbotech or the Fedoro DS2500.
I will be getting some DS2500 next 2 months. These will be replacing my STI pads.
I can tell you that WRX pads are craps. STI pads are so much better. In actual fact, twice as good. DS2500 should be a dream. I will see.

I got some Cobalt Friction GT Sports. I planned to have some track days with them. but I haven't had the time. However, I have had them on the car (02 wagon) for over 5k. They make a HUGE DIFFERENCE! The spongyness is gone and cold stopping is strong and when they warm up their awesome. No longer am I worried when I drive through the mountains pushing the car hard about my brakes fading or not being able to feel whats going on. they do squeak a little at stop lights but not consistantly. I definately reccomend getting an upgrade in brake pads if not the GT Sports by cobalt I'm sure the other ones mentioned are plenty good.
