why the STI?

lease don't get me wrong, I am not trying to start a flame war, but rather the STI and EVO both have their pluses and minuses. What brought everybody to their decision? This is sort of an ongoing list I have been accumulating:

STI- more displacement, readily available, interior looks like you are getting what you are paying for, overall build quality, marginally less expensive, looks aggressive, ability to launch as hard as you'd like (no limiter), everyday driveability, DCCD

EVO- great warranty, takes to modding better, stiff suspension, a bit more exclusive (don't see very many on the road), shoddy interior, build quality (heard about rattles and squeaks on the interior), doesn't look as mean as the Suby, more expensive

I am assuming you can purchase an extended warranty to equalize that aspect? For those of you who have driven both any input would be appreciated? I have driven an EVO that belonged to a buddy and was impressed although he runs it pretty hard and the 2nd gear synchro was on its way out. I plan on driving an STI in the next week or so and hope this will help sort things out.
Thanks in advance for all your input.

Don't have an STi....but if I did decide to purchase one or the other....

It would be an STi, simply because of the history Mitsubishi has in Japan about hiding recalls from owners. I have no love for a company that would pull that crap. Back in the late 90's early 2000's they were busted for hiding defects then repairing them on the sly when (and if) an owner brought their car in for regular service....then not tell them anything about what they had done.

Was stationed in Japan from 1993-2003 and saw all this crap on the news for quite awhile when it was going on.

My first car was a Mitsubishi design....and it was crap!

I guess its up to each person. Whats more important to you and what car has more of what you want? However, I think theres something to be said about why there are more STi's on the road

Maybe in Omaha you don't see many...but here in the San Jose, California Bay Area we have tons. STI's too. I see at least a couple EVO's a day.

Fist of all because it's an STi.
Second of all because it's an STi.

Ive had good past experience with subarus, as well as my friends and family. If I were to choose, it would be an STi no question. Evo is awesome, but different stokes for different folks.

Test drive both (IF you can find a dealership that will let you test drive an evo!) and buy the one you like.

Are you serious? From every account I have heard, if you so much as put a catback on an evo, you no longer have a warranty. But they will mod well do to the bigger turbo. Too many problems with the 4g63 for me. Plus the STi does have MUCH better build quality.

If you are an enthusiasts who is planning to mod the car, you should not care about warranty. Trying to warranty a modded car will do nothing but cause your headache. Buy a car, wait a bit to make sure it is not a lemon, and start modding. Take good care of it and don't count on the manufacturer to fix what you break as a result of modifying it.

EVO is cool.

I don't like EVO maily because of the "behind the wheel feel". Sitting position, visibility. It just does not feel as nice as WRX's. And the interior on EVO's are crappy. However, EVO's will always have more power and require less modding to be very quick.

Subaru drivers have always been a special bunch. Even with the recent influx of generic enthusiasts, the "Subaru Spirit" is still very strong. EVO guys will never have that. The community is not as tight and there is a lot more drama. Especially among the tuners. I am talking "I wanna kill you" type of drama.
