How many miles on your '06 since last oil change? If my engine was down a quart, I would go ahead and do an oil change if it was close to the scheduled time.
The factory uses conventional petroleum-based oil, AFAIK, and likely 5W-30 weight. You can top off the crankcase with any name brand oil that meets the minimum specs given in your Owner's Manual, and that specification includes just about every big motor oil producer that makes automotive oils.
I use Mobil 1 5W-30 because it's readily available, while others are satisfied with conventional motor oil changed maybe every 3000 miles. Red Line is another popular synthetic oil. Stick with the factory maintenance schedule or change the oil and filter more frequently if it gives you peace of mind.
Do not overfill the crankcase. I don't know what the system capacity is on an '06 but my car takes 4.8 quarts, not 5 quarts. You want to keep the oil in the sump away from reciprocating engine parts like the crankshaft.

I wouldn't run synthetic until you have at least 6k on your car. You can do it anyway you like, but usually people run regular oil for a "break in" period of 6-10k miles.
