Greetings Brian. I drive an 03 WRX. I guess the main thing that bugs me the most is the WRX tranny. Shifting into reverse almost always gives me trouble. But otherwise, I love my car.

Don't really like the stock stereo, but that sucker got taken out and replaced with a new headunit anyways. Also, wish it had more cupholders/storage space, but I fixed that too... And on the newer 05 models, they have some interior redesigns as well.

Now that the new 05 Legacy GT is coming over with the 2.5L turbo, I would seriously consider that just for the little bit more of power, legroom, and luxury, but other than that, I'm very happy with my 04.

Thanks so much,
Brian--- married, father of 2...love fast cars, selling my 99 GT mustang!
aloha brian,
as most people in here know i was raised on subarus, and i also sell them and i have a wrx wagon(03) and a sti(04). my only comment in terms of both is that the doors have a hollow sound when you close them(with window down). other than that i have not had the problems experienced with most in regards to the tranny. once you get used to the spool up issues in the 2.0t you're fine(it takes a little while to get a "sweet spot" for shifting)
as for the sti- there are no issues to discuss except for road noise/rattles. but then again. . . one buys this car for performance and practicality-not comfort/luxury.
that said both cars are made extremely well. both are made completely in japan.(which speaks highly in itself). the reason why WRteams love the impreza platform is that the frames/cont is so stiff(notice no STB in either car) if you lift the rear seat off you will find another added brace underneath(added stiffness). every year the cars are rated high in almost any unbiased magazine. one note on fuel economy though. i average 22-23 in my wagon and about 17-19 mpg in the sti. ironically i am thinking about getting a mustang again!

good luck in your quest

aloha from the summit of Mauna Kea

the reason why the doors sound hollow is because there is no frame around the window on the door itself. it does sound kind of tinny, but its no biggie

i love my rex and stoked i bought it. the awd is a huge bonus as well

Interesting question Brian; as for an answer, the only thing I don't like about the WRX is the wheels/tires they came with. Upgrading to 17" wheels/tires combo (which can be had for under $1K) made a big difference in the areas of handling and looks. Other than that, I love my WRX and agree that for the money, it's the best out there.

i dislike the ****ty paint job, rear seat doesn't fold down and like already mentioned reverse is sometimes difficult to get into.

There's only really 1 thing I didn't like about my '02 WRX ..... tranny. But now that I have an '04 STi 6-MT .. fun fun

Hope you get one, driving doesn't compare to a Mustang in my opinion; but there's something to be said about Mustangs

I LOVE my '04!! I used to be a Honda owner and now I'm Subaru for life! For me the car doesn't rattle like a honda, very, very solid. I love the pull of AWD. The only problem I have with it is....

The gas milage. But what can you expect from a 227hp turbo? As for the tranny, you do have to get used to it. Just find the sweet spot and you'll be just fine. Also the stock stero SUCKS! I have the bass and trebble set at '0'. To much destortion!
