Besides the fenders, the wagon also has a couple more pounds of weight, as well as minor differences in camber, etc. Read the Owner Manual for spec diffs between the wagon and the sedan. The sedan seems to have factory settings slightly more towards performance.

That said... I originally bought my wagon for hauling the kids strollers and stuff. From day one, the double stroller didn't fit in the wagon ... but it does fit my pair of 12 inch subs in a bigass box!

Also... can you haul 4 tires (225/50/16s) in the sedan without loading anything in the back seat! The wagon can handle it!!!

The combination of performance, utility, and a cheaper price were what swayed me to getting a wagon.

It is also nice to hear young punk-*** kids ask me "why did you get a wagon?!?" I hate to stereotype, but it seems that thieves would ask the same question, if you get my drift.

 

Wagon all the way. I just got the crossbar kit for the factory roof rails and hauled about 75 pound of wood home. It's nice to be able to haul __s with a bunch of 2x6x8s strapped to the roof!

 

I am going to buy a 2005 2.5 RS and wanted to get some opinions on what to get.... a wagon or sedan. Any comments on each ... can you give me some pros and cons?

Sedan. I didn't even look at a wagon. Married..no kids..none in the near future..Have a pickup for hauling... . No brainer for me. I'd rather have a FXT or a BajaT than a wagon. I suppose if you have kids and other hauling needs the wagon may be good for you.

 

I love my wagon it is the kind of car that says I dont give a crap about your flashy rice rocket. This is a guy who doesn't care what others think of his car, but it looks damn good doesn't. Speaking of storage I was a cable installer and carried 2 toolboxes, 3 cable spools, a 24ft ladder on the rack, and 2 boxes of convervters including all my hand tools. The ladder made people take a second look to see if it was a WRX or not.

 

When it comes to buying a standard (non-sti) wrx, there is no choice that the wagon is a better choice as it hauls a hell of a lot more, sticker price is cheaper, ect. If you want a sedan, get an sti.

 

The rear wagon sway bar is a wimpy 13mm coat hanger on my 2005 2.5RS, so I swapped it out for a 17mm 2002 WRX wagon sway bar....it makes a lot of difference....

Make sure you get the new style bushings with shoulders, the old style ones with no shoulders will pop out on the passenger side (unless you put a hose clamp there).....they changed the design of the clamps.

The oversize bushings are very cheap at the dealer. You can get the urethane ones if you want it even more rigid, but I prefer the rubber ones....sometimes a little bit of compliance is a good thing.

 

i am a college student moving around, i think a wagon would be perfect, but what about the snow does it still handle pretty good. does anybody have an RS model wagons, any good.

 

i noticed its only a little more for a wrx, but i read it requires 91 octane, could i get away using 87 octane

 

Maybe. But why? The few cents per gallon that you would save would negate just about all the increased performance of a WRX over a 2.5RS and probably end up causing problems because the engine's not designed to be used regularly with that fuel. If you're looking to use cheap gas, a turbo is not for you. I had a BPU WRX that got 25 mpg on premium. That's pretty good for a car as quick as it is.
