Doesn't matter where you buy it, it is based on where you register it in California... If this were not the case everyone would drive to nevada to buy their cars.

Sales tax goes off the addr where you register the car, not where you bought it.

ask about "fees"

make sure you ask what "+tax and fees" means. Most dealers do charge a service fee, and it varies a lot from state to state. Not a lot of dealers do this anymore, but I've seen places that will just drop the price, then tack on an extra "document preparation fee" of $300 at the end, and when you question it (after you've driven there, filled out the paperwork, etc), they say "Oh, all dealers do this".
Also, if you have a trade, make sure they're not holding extra on your trade. $30,180 is not out of the question for an STi though. I sell them for less than that. (I'm in New England though).
