Thinking of Buying 02 WRX

Hey everybody! I'm looking to buy a used 02 WRX sedan. Here are the stats that I know off-hand:
Manual Transmission
Dual Power Seats
Leather Seats
Single CD, Cassette, AM/FM
Tilt Steering
ABS
Power Everything
Cruise control
56k mi.
Seller is asking $7,400
The pic ---> http://images.autobytel.com/web/fsbo/i132300_1.jpg
I just wanted to know if there are any problems with this car/model. Also, I have heard that there was problems with the tranny; were there any recalls and what does Subaru do about with problems (especially without dealer warranty because I highly doubt that this car will still come with one). Thanks for all your help in advance!!

That looks too good to be true...very low price. I've got an 02 wrx. Since i've owned it I think there have been 2 recalls:
1) cruise control https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...hlight=recalls
2) Seat rail https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...hlight=recalls
Some people complain about clutch shudder on cold mornings. I don't believe they sent out an official recall, though they fix it under warranty.
As far as the tranny, it does suck compared to others but as long as you don't dump the clutch you should be fine. Also, the tranny issue comes up usually when you go passed the 300 whp mark.
Also, the "search" button is a life saver.
good luck!

Hey Guys! Thanks for the fast replies!! I do agree, the price sounds too good to be true. I e-mailed the seller to send me pics and a list of the pros & cons of his car. (Crosses fingers on a clean title and not a parts car
) Also, thanks for the input on the tranny and the recalls. And yes, the search button would have helped me find some stuff, but I'm new to i-club and the suby so I wanted some imput on the 'for sale' stats of this particular one. Again, thanks to you both! More comments, info, and advice are still welcome!

Did the seller ever tell you why the price is soo low? If you get the VIN you can run it through to check if its been in an accident, salvaged, stuff like that urself. But if the seller never reported an accident it...no one would ever know. I may be overly cautious but hey, no one wants a junkie subie
Are they on I-club or any other forums? With some digging you might be able to learn more on the history of the car.
I'm sure the person has valid reasons for the pricing and whatnot. And in the end you may have found a really good deal.

aftermarket
this is pretty likely to be some sort of scam. Leather is not really offered from the factory, and while many people do put leather in, VERY few put in power seats, ESPECIALLY DUAL power seats. That would be VERY expensive to do. It's either a scam, or the car's salvage titled. An 02 WRX should sell easily with those miles for around 15K, maybe a little less. If he was asking 13K, I'd jump on it like it was the last boat leaving Pompeii, but at $7,500 He's full of $%!T.
Having just bought an 02 WRX, I would stay away from this one. It's probably a salvage title. I got mine with 36k on it, and paid $15900. The dealer claims wholesale was 16,900. Anything less than 12,000 sounds like something that is too good to be true.

Hey all. I have e-mailed this guy twice and got no reply whatsoever. I think he either a.) Can’t use the net, b.) Sold the car and doesn’t want to give the courtesy of informing me that it has been sold, or c.) Won’t answer because I am a girl. I think it is safe to say that this car is out of the question :*( How cruddy!! If anyone wants to e-mail this guy and see if they get a reply (to support or deny my against the girl thoughts or to see if this person even answers) I will gladly give the e-mail he listed on the ad for the car. Anyway, thanks for all the advice everyone.

option D
or D: is in jail for some sort of car selling scam, and is too busy dropping the soap to respond to your e-mail.
If you want to post up his e-mail I'll drop him a line, but I honestly think it's a waste of your time. You're better off without this car. If you want a WRX, pay the $15K that a nice one is worth, and have some piece of mind with your purchase. IMHO.

I agree. This car trades at the high 15's right now. Person to person it would be about 18K. These are for 03's by the way. Be careful and make sure you have the checked thouroughly before buying. A suby shop like Gruppe-S or MPJ or whatever is close in your area would be able to help you with that for a very small fee I would think. It's very rare to find one that has not been modified at all.
Good luck on the search.

Hey all.. After all of the worries, the guy finally e-mailed me.. here is what he wrote:
"Hey !!!
I want you to know that for the moment i am in Valencia ,Spain.I'm working at Gilbane Construction Company,I'm a project manager.I was detached here in Valencia by the company to expand and modernize a convention center. The project last for three months.
The car is here with me,but it's register in US ,so no import taxes!!!Here is the vin number jf1gd29632g519727.
Please check the carfax report to see that the car is in good condition!!!
Has a CLEAR TITLE and mechanically without any problems ever.I hate to sell it but I have to,cause I have some finacial problems!!!
I've always stored the car in my garage.
The price is $7400 !!!You probably ask yourself why I sell it so cheap! Well, I have some financial difficulties...I have to pay back some loans and also some house's bills in two weeks back in states .You know how it is, I can lose my house. The problem is that I don't have any family members back in states and I have to take care of my problems for myself.I've tried sell it local, but since the car is registered in US , nobody wants it.To register the car here is very expansive.Thats why i'm trying to sell it back to US.If you're interested in my car I want you to know that I'll take care of the shipping costs. The car will be shipped through Auto Car Transport so the car will be insured against all damages My brother in law works at this company and he can get me a 45% discount. The shipping will take about 6,7 days.Safety check & pre-delivery inspection by the company along with a fresh servicing before I ship the car.
Let me know if you're still interested so we can move on with this deal!"
Wow!
Just an FYI..

Ms. Lovey,
Please make sure everything checks out before paying for anything. There were some threads discussing these types of transactions that were fraudulent. It escapes me right now where I read it, but be careful.

Yeah, the fact that he's overseas it kind of a red flag. The grammar isn't all that hot either, I dunno, just smells funny to me. If you were able to physically see/drive the car it'd be one thing, but sight unseen, I'd have to go with no.
