Surfboards and WRX Wagons

So I'm at a crossing point in my next car venture, I would love to get a WRX wagon but I am concerned about being able to carry my 9'8" board on top of it. Has anyone had experience with this?

Also, how is the WRX for long road trips? I drive about a 1000 in one trip a few times a year.

Thanks

I don't think carrying a 9'8" surfboard is going to be an issue on a wagon. I used to carry a 9'-0" on my sedan with zero issues (and that's using one of those el-cheapo racks that you tie through the windows). If you're truly concerned, just cough up the dough for a nice roof rack. But again, you shouldn't have any problems.

I don't know about long road trips, but I used to commute 90-100 miles one way to work. I had no complaints considering I did the same commute in both a Honda CR-V and Odessy(sp?) as well.

thanks for the reply.

I have a Yakima rack already that will fit the WRX just fine. I guess I was worried about air lift on the board putting all the upward stress on it.

But if you did the 9'0 with the sedan then I should be fine.

Thanks

No problem. I have a Thule rack and a 7'-6" board now, and I can usually go 60-65mph before there's any indication of unstableness, even though I could easily go 70mph or so before any real problems. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much, just keep an eye out for your board as you're driving.

Thumbs up

I fit my 7'6" inside with room to spare. I also put my 9'4" up top with no issues, just be sure to use compression straps rather that bungie cords.

Catch ya' in the green room S.D. style

I drove from NYC to LA last summer in the STi. I had no problems. It would proably be mucho more cumfortable in a wagon.
