Sti advice

Hey all,

I`ve been wanting to trade in my 2002 wrb WRX for an 04 STI. I`m the original owner with 52k miles on my car versus the car that`s being displayed here on craig`s. I`ve called that dealer and the told me that the STI has had 3 previous owners. Would you think it`s worth it? Perhaps I can knock off some $$ since it doesn`t have the stock BBS? Anyway, it would really help to hear from anyone as I will be going to check out the car on Sat.

TIA,
Alan

The car isn't really "priced to move". It's priced at 20k. That's actually above what KBB lists for a car in "excellent" condition if you were buying from a private seller. I'd be a little antsy about any car that had 3 previous owners. The way I look at it, you're buying into a vehicle that has no factory warranty left, a possibly suspect history, and more miles than your 02 WRX. If your heart is set on making this happen, offer 16,500 and refuse to go any higher than 18,000.

Remember, they need to sell the car more than you need to buy it.

If you are going to buy a used STi, buy from a private party (and sell your car private party also)...this way you get the most bang for your buck.

When you buy private party, you get to talk to the owner and ask any questions you want and most importanly, you can see if you get a good or bad vibe which will tell most about the car imo.

I am all for buying used, its a great way to save A LOT of $$$. I bought my 04 STi off craigslist....but I looked for over 6 months to find the right one!

Good Luck with the search!

No deal. 3 owners in 4 years is shakey. Be patient and you will find a clean one owner car with a good service record.
