scooby for under 10k
is that a good idea. i was looking for a 2000-2004(maybe) under 75K miles 2.5 rs. i plan on moving 2 hours away from where i live now so i was looking at getting a wagon(2003 for 11000 with 55k miles), but would love to have a sedan ( i found one for 10k with 72k miles). What should i look for. are they reliable enough to get me through college for another 2 years

You might be happier with the wagon. As a student, you are bound to make trips home during school breaks. If you're spending up to 10k, that should get you a decent 2.5 RS depending upon your local used car market.
To answer your other post, any AWD Impreza (older models offered both AWD and front-wheel drive) just a few years old will do just fine in the snow as long as the vehicle has decent all-season, or better yet, true winter tires. In any case, the Impreza will drive a whole lot better in winter conditions than any non-AWD vehicle. Just keep in mind that AWD offers no advantage under winter braking conditions.
A test drive of the vehicle before purchasing should weed out any obvious drivetrain problems. The AWD should operate smoothly and without noticeable noise or other anomalies from a standing start, during turns, etc. If the car is an automatic transmission, note any shifting problems during normal driving or moderate acceleration.

You should also pay for an independent mechanic (one that specializes in subies preferably) to take a look at it, that way you know exactly what condition the car is in.

i went to the subaru dealership, oh man do i want a sti, the wagon doesnt seem to have much room, it would be easier to fit some of my bigger school projects into it and my bed, but it wasn't as big as thought it would be. too bad they were closed i was going to test drive one.
