It might be more cost effective to go with a new short block, unless you want to spend the money having a good machine shop work out the bugs with your old block.

I agree, getting a long or short block will eliminate inconsistencies from a machine mill block; unless the machine shop is pretty reputable (i.e. race engine shop).

If you know of some good buggy shops, you could check them out, I have seen them building some crazy subie engines.
